Finland's prize

Interrupted by the onset of World War II, the Olympic games in Finland were finally hosted there after the war in the early 1950's and are a source of pride.

Well, there is nor much to say really. The Olympic Stadium Of Helsinki is under reconstruction. However, noone bothers to tell on homepages that's the fact. So after having bought tickets for the Metro and busses we arrived to a closed stadium

We were surprised to see the Olympic Statium and other structures were closed for about a year for renovations. So do not waste your time unless you just want to walk around the grounds.

I visited last year before the Stadium and Tower were closed for renovation. On the first day I arrived very early in the morning (the tower opens well before most museums), but that day the tower was closed for security reasons because of a football match in the evening (Finland vs. Northern Ireland). So I had to come back the... More

We took some photos anyway but it was so disappointing to find the complex closed and under renovation.

Since it is under construction, one can't get near. We enjoyed walking around the grounds only because my husband is in the construction business.

We wasted our time stopping here because it has been closed since 2015 under renovation. Reopening in 2019. We did feel some nostalgia looking at the olympic rings and the statue of the flying finn.

As others have mentioned, the Helsinki Olympic Stadium is closed through at least 2019. So do not expect the same spectacular tours that you would get in Berlin or Melbourne. However, if you are an Olympic Stadium buff like I am, it is worth a look. Sitting on the NNW of the main part of the City, you can get... More

A time capsule of design interrupted by the war. Ready for the games of 1940 Finland had to wait until 1952 to showcase to the world. The stadium is currently undergoing a major upgrade and access is very limited.

The time we visited the place was closed for renovation. But we could see from outside and of course take pictures of the flying finn.
