This redbrick beauty is visible from so many places in Helsinki; it is also the largest Orthodox church in all of Western Europe. Designed by a Russian architect who based this church on an older one in Moscow, it was completed in the late 1800's....More

Worth to visit and feel the atmosphere of this old Russian Orthodox cathedral. The exterior of Uspenski Cathedral is not elaborately decorated, but is nevertheless striking with its deep-red brick walls and green-and-gold onion domes.

This cathedral is fabulous both outside and inside, with plenty of gold decorating this religious place. Doesn't open until 09.30, but well worth a visit. Not far from the market place.

Takes like 10 minutes to go there from the market. It is up the hill and it has wheelchair access from the back. IT is a proper big church that I recommend people to visit as a tourist attraction as it looks beautiful. Also, from...More

One of the most charming churches I have seen. If you are staying more than 2 days and interested in churches, should stop by.

perched on a gorgeous exposed cliff, visible from Marquet Square. I recommend a gander but it isn't the most beautiful church. Actually the stars atop the Russian Orthodox church and its structure is more impressive aesthetically but the natural setting is what makes this cathedral...More

The architecture of maroon brick is striking. The sea-foam domes represent Christ and his disciples. Because of its location set up high, you can really get a sense of the building as a whole from the outside. Inside, massive granite columns support the domes. I...More

It’s a nice church with a square(ish) base plan and red bricks, with a richly decorated high altar. Unfortunately I visited right after the mass, and there were still barriers for visitors, so it was not possible to see the famous icons.

It's closed on Monday. They are only opened for a couple of hours on other days if the week too. Though it is worth going in, just looking at the church and walking around it to see the 360 view of Helsinki bay is nice, too.
