We saw this museum immediately after the Hermitage in St Pete. We were prepared to be disappointed. What a surprise. Wonderful collection. Good diversity. No crowds. And, they were featuring a Pekko Halonen exhibit on a whole floor. Over 300 paintings. We had seen 1...More

Not convincing. 13 Euro is not cheap (Louvre: 15 Euro), but then a complete floor was closed. Out of 5 works I wanted to see, I only found 1. The information was not very helpful. They knew 2 of the "missing" works ("not on display"),...More

Overall a beautiful building, many art pieces. It was nice to see Finnish art and how their was several periods for art. I think the best exhibit was the portraits. The museum offers a student discount that can be used so if you are from...More

Such a phenomenal collection of Finnish art. The best you can get of Finnish painting. You will grasp not only the important major movements and contexts of Finnish painting, but also the quality delivered by these artists are breathtaking. These artists, not always well-known elsewhere,...More

Along with the stunning curated selection, the docents/guides were very knowledgeable and welcoming. I enjoyed both the classical and modern offerings, as well as the fact that so many women artists were featured. The gift shop was small but lovely. This was a wonderful way...More

This art museum contains some amazing works with artists I’d never heard of before. Lots of great portraiture, impressionist paintings well curated. Also a great cafe in basement and good bookshop.

We enjoyed our visit here very much. The architecture of the building is beautiful. The information about the history of Finnish arts is very worthwhile.

I have visited many art museums in the world. Ateneum is not so big as Louvre or Hermitage, not so full of world class masterpieces like Prado or Uffizi. Ateneum with its classical art collection shows the soul of Finland. Not a lot of joy,...More

An imposing building that houses collections of mostly Finnish artists from modernism to symbolism, impressionism, cubism. On their own, most of the works seem a bit derivative , with artists emulating (mostly Parisian) trends. My favorite was probably the room devoted to Kalevala, especially the...More

Excellent art museum giving insight into Finnish art. Interesting displays particularly those arranging Finnish artists with other European artists to convey aspects of style.

An art museum in the city centre. Interesting exhibitions for reasonable price. The ongoing exhibition explains the Finnish history. Worth visiting.

This is really educational place. There're many notes about art history and styles. I had a very quick visit, but this place is totally worth your time. I would like to visit it again for a couple of hours if I was in a Helsinki.
