Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The temporary exhibition entitled Pehmo (Softy in English) is absolutely wonderful and worth the visit on its own.
I did enjoy the other exhibits, but the textiles on display were of an entirely different order. From the awe inspiring floor to ceiling applique piece near the entrance to the story of Mrs Moebius in a small display case, there was always something to wonder at.
Particulary moving was the giant mobile of 3D structures made of white fabric - inspired by the European Space Agency's collaboration with the disabled community.
As a quilter, I know something about some of the techniques involved and enjoyed being able to see the items close up and work out how they had been made.
I was lucky enough to speak to one of the room guardians - Mr. Veli - who gave me further insights into some of the pieces and their makers.
If you are in Helsinki, the HAM is worth a visit for this textile exhibition alone.

HAM has closed most of the main exhibition area. This means that you do not get the full experience for the EUR 18 that you pay. The information about the closed exhibition is not given until you have paid and entered the exhibition. It is close to being fradulent. We got free tickets as compensation after complaining but who travels all the way to Helsinki one more time to just experience HAM? I won’t.
It would have been fair to say “Main area is closed. We have a reduced entrance fee, would you still like to enter?"

We found this place during our first trip to Helsinki. It is probably the most important museum of art in Helsinki. However, compared to other art museums in big cities Helsinki is behind. They concentrate more on local artists and you will not find the typical collections including international artists.

The HAM is definitely a place to visit when I. Helsinki, especially if you enjoy modern art. The space is vast and open, and the current exhibitions are very thought-provoking.
Having an exhibition space with artworks at the height of young children and a room in which people can draw / write on the walls and floor is also unlike anything else I have seen in other contemporary art spaces. This was very cool, and a great way to introduce young children into the world of art!

OK space over several floors. The exhibits showing featured some interesting and impressive paintings and an interesting look at Moomin’s creator Tove Jansson and her more serious art. I found the upper floor exhibits on animals and unsettling video screen clips hit and miss. Quite depressing to watch along with some odd sound design. It was a challenge to engage with it. Still a great space to showcase your work and well presented here. Nice little shop and staff were friendly and helpful. Somewhat value for money if you are interested in the subject matters. The building also has a cinema with some movie character models which are good to catch on your way out.

The museum is owned and operated by the city of Helsinki. It looks after the city's art collection, containing over 9,000 works. Nearly half of these are on display in public places such as parks, streets, schools, and libraries. The art museum hosts a small permanent exhibition of the works of Tove Jansson, including two large frescoes created for the restaurant of Helsinki City Hall.[3]

We visited this museum on a Helsinki visitor pass - the normal entry is €6 each. You have to check coats and bags (no extra cost) but it's fine to take a camera in.
My wife likes moomins so the fact there were some frescos and other art by Tove Jansson went down well. There was the work of another finnish artist there. It was interesting but the art museum was quite small. There was an area where someone was restoring a mural piece by piece. It's a little bit confusing that the art museum is in a cinema complex, you have to take the escalator up to the 2nd floor to reach the museum itself. There is a gift shop (full of moomin memorabilia) and cafeteria outside the museum. OK for spending an hour or two on a rainy Helsinki afternoon.

This museum is a fine one. On the first floor you can see portraits from many Finnish artists. But on the 2nd floor is where I started to get disappointed. Because the second floor was all graffiti. I mean graffiti can be cool, but I really was disappointed. I would probably not go back here again.

Helsinki Art Museum is located in the so-called Tennispalatsi (Tennis Palace), a functionalist building constructed in the late 1930s which got its name from the four tennis courts that were inside. Tennis Palace was intended to host the tennis matches of the 1940 Olympic Games, which - as we all know - didn't take place because of WWII. When Helsinki was finally able to host the Olympic Games in 1952, the building served as the venue for the Olympic basketball matches. Nowadays it is home to the Helsinki Art Museum. The most interesting part of the museum in my opinion are the paintings and murals by Tove Jannson, who is widely known as the author and illustrator of the Moomins books. Of course there are also paintings and works of art by other contemporary artists on display.

It's... okay, nothing more or less. Most of the exhibitions are modern art, with way too many pieces showing penises weirdly. I mean, we're far from being conservatives but this was more of bad taste than anything else. Tuve Janssons' paintings are interesting (with moomins hidden!).
