Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The exhibition of old theatre costumes is interesting. The oldest costumes are from the 19th century. At the Arkadia Theatre you or your children may dress in theatre costumes and perform something on the theatre stage. The museum also has an exhibition about the international history of Finnish contemporary dance.

I recommend that you buy a combination ticket to Theatre Museum, Hotel and Restaurant Museum and Finnish Museum of Photography. All of them are situated in the same building. Free entrance with Museum Card or Helsinki Card.

A rack full of costumes and an open stage to play can be used freely by children. They will provide a nice memento filmed and shared. Otherwise the museum is quite old fashioned relying too much on printed words on the walls which are difficult to read in poor lightning.

We did not have high expectations going to this museum, but we were surprised.
There are many interactive displays where kids can put on theater costumes and create their own show.
The place was nearly empty when we got there, and the stage was free for the kids to play.
We spent several hours there and had to leave when the place was closing, without even seeing all the rooms.
A wonderful place if your kids are into acting.

It was actually my teenager sister who spotted this site doing her homework before our journey, but I should admit the playground is good for adults as well! There are no boring historical details, but lots of WOW dresses - and you can try on so many of them.
Free with Helsinki Card - and pay a visit to Restaurants & Hotels museum upstairs.

Interesting museum with plenty of interaction (costumes, acting, lighting, puppetry etc.) for visitors. Most of the numbers work well with kids.

A large collection of theatre costumes from Finnish plays and films over many decades is the main attraction of this small museum at Kaapeli upstairs from the Photography museum. A group of eager children was gathered under a huge dragon head awaiting a guided game, the museum also advertises theme days, clubs and seminars.

As an actor I found many interesting things here but it is also very fun place with or without kids even if you are not a theater buff.
The costumes alone are interesting and here you can have a closer peek how professional theater costumes are made.

Children would have tons of fun here and you can actually arrange childrens birthday party here.

When we visited there was some school activity taking place, so it was quiet in some of the rooms, but also meant we were restricted from parts. Even though they have made maps and handouts in several languages, most was in Finnish so it was very hard to follow. There’s no markings compared to the map they provide to determine you’re in the right part of the museum which was confusing.

We stayed for around an hour and mooched around what we could make out in terms of the handout we were given.

Overall the place was ok but wouldn’t visit again.

We only ended up here because of the Helsinki card and a spare few hours on our last day and it was a pleasant surprise with a decent amount of exhibits and silliness if you are that way inclined.

A little tricky to find and a little out the way it is definitely worth seeking out for something a little bit different and in close proximity to the restaurant museum which is also free with Helsinki card it would be silly not to pop in.
