Its a beautiful area of old wooden houses. When you walk there you can feel like 100 years ago. Its quiet, peacefull, and beautiful like old times.

Neristan in Kokkola is one of the oldest towns in Finland with old traditional wooden houses. It is fascinating to see the layout of the narrow streets on the grid system. In winter after a heavy snowfall the streets are almost impassable without the constant...More

Ask for a brochure from your hotel or tourist information. It offers stories of the houses and a 1,5 hours walking tour in the old town. Neristan is enjoyable even without the guide.

Nice walk around the traditional old wooden houses. I imagine they would look amazing in the snow in the winter! Went into the Christian charity shop and bookshop which has two lovely cafes which were very peaceful.

A piece of genuine local history, with many fine old wooden buildings to wonder at. There may be more attractive old town areas in the country, but this is still a good example of the type. There are occasional activities connected with local history, so...More

t is definitely not a must see, but if you are staying/passing nearby, it is worth a look, and a short walk through the old wooden town.

If you like old towns and wooden buildings, this is a place to visit. Do not hurry, do not drive a car. Walk and take it slow. Look into houses, backyards and details. Summer and winter, does not matter. Take a stroll and a cup...More
