You can catch a water bus at Poroholma that will take you to Kuuskajaskari. The island was once part of the Finnish military but now is a tourist island. The military past is quite evident still with cannons, shooting ranges etc. You can stay on the island either in the former barracks or in small townhouses (the accommodations are basic).... More

The earlier reviewers have covered much of the basics and I echo: it is a nice and peaceful get-away location with easy access from mainland with 30 min boat ride. An old army base makes this small island a fascinating destination for couple of days or one day trip. The island has two faces. The other coast is inhabited and the other (seaside) is more wild with beautiful rocks and seaviews. Absolutely worth of visiting either by public transportation boats or private.

The island is a very interesting mixture of abandoned army buildings and beautiful nature. Half of the island is included in the national park; the other half is spotted by army barracks. You can see heavy cannons, of which one is still functioning, climb watch towers and see how the nature slowly takes rule over the shooting fields etc. There... More
