Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One of the coolest, most unique places on the planet. Right by the side of the hiway. Unbelievable view of crystal clear lagoon containing dozens of giant icebergs floating along. Boat rides were available but seemed expensive when considering the fantastic views available from the shoreline. This is one if the things you show everyone pictures of when you get home. Will return.

In my opinion this is one of the most unique, visually pleasing and typical natural reserves in Iceland: A huge glacier, making its way to the sea, creating a lake strewn with ice, smaller and larger glacier bits and blue hypnotizing freezing waters. If only possible take a boat tour on the lake, the views are mesmerizing, the quiet is getting under your skin - a near religious experience
Global warming slowly kills this place, so hurry and visit as early as you can, our children may not be able to witness this natural wonder

Absolutely beautiful - go out and around the icebergs on an anphibian vehicle and see the amazing scenery. Not expensive once you are there but cheap at any price, although be prepared for a long journey from Reykjavik
.but "do it" -you will not be disappointed

We was mom, dad and 3 kids, 5, 9 and 12 and walked the gletchers at Vatnajokul. Amazing and a must see in life. We stayed at the Skafta fell Hotel which was no luxus but nice and very expensive. You must book at least 6 month ahead. We booked however, the day before and got 2 rooms on cancelation. Vatnajokul is fantastic and we enjoyed it a lot. Did you know that the size is 8400 sq KM? The kids loved it and climbed the ice with a rope, ice shoes, and helmet. Fantastic.

Visited the Mount Laki Lava Fields in Vatnajokull National Park. The 1783 eruption of the Mount Laki Volcano was one of the most destructive in world history. The eruption lasted 8 months and created 42 billion tons of lava, which have hardened and are now moss-covered. The effects killed 50% of Iceland's livestock and almost all crops. 20-25% of Iceland's population died in the resulting famine. It created a global temperature drop which affected the whole Northern Hemisphere.

Ice cave tour with Local Guide of Vatnajokull was great. Our guide Tinna was brilliant. Going up the glacier was quite an experience. Going inside the caves, even better. These are natural caves as opposed to the man made one in Langjokull.
Highly recommended.
