This was by far one of the best experiences of my life.the views, the climb, the icecave and the top of the glacier were like nothing you've ever seen. So beautiful and good exercise! We did this activity in the winter and it was great!

To climb this glacier you need to book with a specialist tour guide. You will need crampons over your shoes, best to wear comfortable shoes preferably with coverage up to the ankles for some support. They will usually provide you a hard hat and axe. There are various levels of difficulty tours. The views from the glacier are just amazing.... More

I first visited Iceland in March 2016, but our visit to Vatnajokull glacier & the ice cave was cancelled as the ceiling of the ice cave came off, ending the season for ice cave visit. I came back to Iceland in December 2016, and was fortunate to visit the ice cave on Dec 27 (the cave was closed due to... More

Visited with a group in a purpose built 4 wheel drive jeep. You have to drive over moraines to access the face of the glacier and I wouldn't dream of doing in a normal car, although we did see some idiots try. When we got to the glacier itself we were taken by our guide to a recently discovered, and... More

Winter is certainly the best time to go. The scenery is absolutely mesmerising. We visited the glacier and the ice cave as part of a tour. Before ascending, we were provided with a helmet, crampons and an ice axe and also were given safety instructions (stomping on the ice with the crampons is must). The glacier hike may be a... More

We departed from The Glacier Lagoon, driving approximately an hour off road to Iceland’s largest glacier, Vatnajokull.  During the scenic drive in special Super Jeeps, we also enjoyed the resplendent Icelandic highlands. When we arrived, we were provided with crampons, helmut, safety harness and ice picks. After being decked out with the requisite equipment, we embarked on a glacial hiking to the... More

From the parking lot on the Highway 1 make a 5 minute walk to the river and you will have a lovely and peaceful view over a river and its banks, Area covered with rocks and beautifull flowers. nice for a half hour stop.

If you are going to be in Iceland, you must go here! Use the tour company called "Guide to Iceland" and do the ice cave tour. You get to hike up a glacier and climb down into an ice cave. No other experience like it!

This was an amazing adventure!! The tour guides were great! We were off roading to the Glacier, then received helmet and crampons and walked on the Glacier! It was unbelievable. There were 15 of us, three families, ranging in age from 13 to 55. It was challenging, but worth it! We went into an ice case which was awesome. It... More

This and the glacier lagoon was an incredible day trip. Worth the drive and enduring the bitter cold weather!
