    Foss after Foss
A series of waterfalls all along the canyon. They are not as spectacular as some larger Icelandic falls but still worth visiting. Easy to access from the carpark and has the added bonus of Barnafossar nearby. There is also a restaurant near the site.

    Stop by for the view!
Hraunfossar (‘fossar’ being the plural waterfalls) is just next to Barnafoss & has a stunning view in winter. Stark whites, dark browns, pale icy blue waters & golden yellows in the far land paint an absolutely captivating view. Just stand there for a moment and take in the wonder of Mother Nature! Worth a 1hr pit stop with hot soup & buffet by the cafe there.

    Gorgeous autumn colours in October
We visited early October on a grey rainy day but the colours across the lava field (that the waterfalls run off as rivulets in many different places), were gorgeous; sulphur yellows, black, rust reds. Stunning. Different viewpoints and a couple of footbridges over them ….and over Barnafoss Falls right next to this one. You can walk up in to part of the lava field. All very easy, park your car and walk 5 minutes.

    Beautiful! Great stop
Very very beautiful set of waterfalls! You’d never guess it just driving by, the waterfalls are in a gorge/canyon that you cannot see till you park. We were there in February and it was very icey and very cold but oh so worth it. Afterwards we had a light lunch at the cafe by the parking lot. Soup was very good!

We came across Hraunfossar as a last-minute addition to our itinerary after realizing we wouldn't be able to explore Snæfellsnes with a Tesla (Tesla, if you are reading this, PLEASE install a charging station on the pennisula!) It was a short drive from Reykjavík and quite scenic. Hraunfossar (Lava Falls) is comprised of a series of differently sized cascades formed a thousand years ago from a lava field, with water coming from nearby Langjökull glacier, which gives the water its distinctive milky blue-white color.

If you continue along the trail, you will also pass by Barnafoss (Children's Falls) which gets its name from the death of two children who fell into the narrow, rocky falls from a stone arch. Both waterfalls are fairly close to one another, and the well-maintained trail takes about 30-60 min to complete.

There is a small (free) parking lot available, as well as a visitor's center/buffet and restroom facilities.

Not so famous but beautiful falls. We visited on the way to Into the Glacier hike at Langjokull. Smaller but more beautiful than single stream fall

Our tour group made a short stop here and it was definitely worth the stop to see the scenic multiple waterfalls.

Part of the beautiful natural landscape features that include glaciers, waterfalls, tectonic plate edges, and just general, stark beauty, these waterfalls were eye-catching and memorable. Great visit to Iceland, and worth a self-drive visit or seeing as part of a general driving tour of the island.

Iceland is a paradise for waterfalls lover. This one is not the biggest, not the highest but for sure one of the nicest due to enless number of small lovely waterfalls one after the other.
