- BrakiWorldTravelerBelgrade, Serbia20,006 contributionsThe street everyone walksProbably the most famous street in Reykjavik. It runs slightly downhill from the imposing Hallgrimskirkja to downtown. The lower part is the famous Rainbow street. Many cafes, restaurants, shops,...along it. TIP: Park your car around Hallgrimskirkja Church (free parking) and explore the capital on foot.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 17 November 2023

Compared to Laugavegur this street here is more quiet. But had much more interesting shops in my opinion. It's less busy and has nice views of the Hallgrímskirkja. Ok, there's some traffic and parked cars blocking some views. But it's more of a real-life street. People live here. It's less touristy and still has some nice clothing shops, arts & crafts and even souvenir stores. It's all here. We liked it. And - if you come down from the church - it ends at the Regnbogagatan. Another quirky sight. As close as you can get to Marios Rainbow Road :)Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 November 2023
- MichaelaWest Yorkshire, United Kingdom422 contributionsCute streetIt's a nice street painted with a rainbow on the ground. You'll find lots of nice restaurants in the area, traditional Icelandic as well as others and lots of shops. We visited on a snowy day so the view wasn't amazing but it's definitely worth a walk around if you are in the areaVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 February 2024

This street has a lot of shops and cafes for tourists. It's perfect for a souvenir stop or even some small boutiques. Part of the road is painted as a rainbow which makes for fun photos leading up the the church at the top of the street/hill which is also worth a brief visit.

A lovely street to walk up and down multiple times with plenty of souvenir shops & cafes. Each store was different in structure which was interesting. The streets are so clean with no litter or mess. Some of the “graffiti” was so interesting, pieces of art work.

This picturesque pedestrian street gives direct access to the city’s main cathedral: Hallgrimskirkja. I passed by her several times, because my lodging was near her. There are cafes, bars, shops, galleries and restaurants. Iceland is a safe country and the entire population is concerned about the recycling and cleaning of the city.

Another narrow shopping street in Reykjavik but with many coulourful buildings. It leads from Laugavegur up the cathedral - Hallgrimskirkja.
There are many small cafes and restaurants and when we visited on a Sunday at lunchtime it was getting busy.

Skólavörðustígur is a significant street in Central Reykjavik and runs from Laugavegur shopping Street up to Hallgrímskirkja, a very distinctive Lutheran church. Along the street are many bars, restaurants and souvenir shops and is quite touristy but what makes the street distinctive is that a large proportion of it has been painted rainbow and so the street is mainly referred to as Rainbow Street. It is one of the many areas of the city that are worth visiting.

This street with an unpronounceable name Skolavordustigur offers the best choice of Souvenirs. Maybe you can find cheaper (but not much), but the widest selection is here. There are also restaurants with cafes, but all at fairly high prices.

This was a small store tucked away with some wonderful items!! It had a sign that said VIKINGS on the front so we went in. Everything from books to soaps and hats to magnets. And such kind people! Fun place to shop!

They open at different times, mostly between 9am and 11am, dependI get on which shop you want. I believe the coffee shop opens at 7.30am.
To be sure the one you want is open then do a Google search but you’ll find the majority open by 10am.
Closing times also vary, anything from 6pm until 10pm.
