The national theatre draws attention for its architectural quality, in my opinion much higher than the average in town. The contrast between the dark grey surfaces and the lighter grey decoration elements is quite dramatic. Overall the building reminds the Vienna late secession or deco...More

Looks a little out of place near the Harbour but that's just Iceland. Most who preform here have other jobs and are artists part time. But that's also Iceland. A country of 330,000 people which boasts a symphony orchestra, two theater companies, an opera company...More

I would have liked to have seen a performance inside. The exterior architecture is a dramatic art deco style. Nice place to stroll after dinner.

It's a big building right by the harbor and the main stretch of the town. The design of the building is fairly interesting and it's not to see the arts so far north and in such a small town.

Gorgeous Theatre located in downtown Reykjavik. Local A List actors performing in a wide array of Season Theatre offerings. Cheaper than a Broadway show. Authentic Theatre/Arts experience.

I always make it a point to see at least one production at the National Theatre (Þjóðleikhúsið) whenever I'm in Iceland. Excellent actors (many of whom are regulars in Hollywood productions), fantastic set designs, and superlative direction. Two caveats: All the plays are in Icelandic...More

Was offered tickets to see "In the heart of Robin Hood" by Vesturport group (amazing play.. must see!) and I have to say that Þjóðleikhúsið is a forgotten treasure. The house is in old "art deco" style located downtown central and when walking in you...More

Located next to the national center for cultural heritage, the theater building stands out with its gray color and unique design. Tickets are available for purchase here (or online). Unfortunately, no plays were showing during our stay in Reykjavik and no guided tours were available...More
