Well worth heading into the museum for a comprehensive permanent exhibition on the people history of Iceland from 9th century to now. Beautifully laid out and clear descriptions in Icelandic and English.

Fabulous museum for learning the history of Iceland. As an isolated island, it doesn't have as complicated a history as other countries so one can actually learn the basics by visiting the museum. Good selection of artifacts to illustrate the history. Was absolutely fascinated for...More

We bought the I Love Reykjavik package so this was included. Nice collections but the layout is a little odd. Not a must do for a trip to Reykjavik.

A well organized chronological trip through the history of Iceland and its people, culture, religion, government, ecology & modernization. Definitely worth a visit, especially on a rainy day.

Great place, the exhibit and artifacts on hand are unbelievable. Free admission with Reykjavik card, highly recommended. Easy walk from downtown area, up Suðurgata, past the cemetery through the roundabout. The collection is quite impressive, especially when you consider some of the items are 1000+...More
