It’s easy to walk past this unassuming timber building on Ingólfur Square in the heart of downtown Reykjavík, but a step across the threshold is rewarded by a deep and thoughtful insight into the history of the capital city. There’s a varied collection of artefacts...More

A small museum detailing the life in Reykjavik in 1918. We enjoyed the visit and the admission is worth it given it also gets you in to the Settlement Exhibition.

It's pretty historical. I just didn't find it that enthralling. Not much of a history of Iceland buff I guess. There's also just not much to it,

The lighting in here is shocking. I actually wouldn't know how people with poor eyesight see some of the stuff in here. Maybe it's like this to set the ambiance but let's be practical too. The markings on the floor put you on a path...More

There was plenty for everyone's taste and there were several inter-active sites within the building. The amenities were good.

They were excavating and found the ruins of a Viking longhouse under Reykjavik, and built the museum around it. From the street level you can look down through a glass 'bench' and see part of the excavation. Self guided tour. Wouldn't take more than an...More

A good insight into Ireland's history. The lighting is very subdued making the exhibits hard to see fine details
