A bit of a walk, but worth it!

This walk took me an hour and 20 minutes because I took the long/wrong way. Awesome experience, felt like I was walking on Mars to the spot of the plane. Nobody around me, but... read more

Crashed DC 3 Plane is 4 kilometers away from the Ring Road so you need to walk 45 minutes to the plane and another 50 minutes (because you are tired after the first 45) to the back so if the weather is OK you can spend some time around the plane to charge your batteries. As the Iceland authorities left... More

This was my first stop on my agenda and it was worth it. Getting there is half of the attraction but once there you get to appreciate it even more.

A long walk. 2 mile there and 2 mile back. But all flat. Worth it though. Go very early in the day, much less crowds as it becomes a bit of a Mecca for tourists.

I did not know how far I walked until I got to hotel to look it up. Found it was 4km or 2.4 miles. There is no where to sit and rest except a very occasional rock near plane. Would be nice to see an info sign at start.

I'm glad I went because it was pretty cool to see but the walk is pretty monotonous and long. I recommend only going if the weather is nice.

No signs at the arrival, only big parking lot with small gate to enter the "beach". Be prepared for a long walk (40-60 minutes one way) to the wreck through the plain, where is only a few rocks. The wreck itself is kinda interesting but too crowded. In my opinion, it's not worth the time spent on this...there is a... More

Stopped by as part of a honeymoon trip. We both work as airline pilots so this wreck was on a "bucket list" for us. Be prepared for a long walk (about 3.5km each way). It's also not signposted from the road (or alternatively I just missed it). The wreck is well worth the walk if aviation is of interest to... More

This walk took me an hour and 20 minutes because I took the long/wrong way. Awesome experience, felt like I was walking on Mars to the spot of the plane. Nobody around me, but black beaches. Beautiful! Once I found the plane it was bittersweet, just make sure you set sometime aside for this excursion. It takes a bit to... More

When we set out from the car park there was no indication of how far it was to the wreck and distances in such a flat, barren landscape are deceptive. Prepare yourself for a 4km+ hike with no toilet stops.

My best friend and I were anticipating to see this in person. What I didn't tell her was that it was approximately 4 km long... up until she stressed the need to use the restroom. She said "that's (4 km) not too bad". Side Note: we are not use to the metric system because we are American but I've calculated... More
