About
Scenic riding tours on the beautiful black sand beach of Vík, South Iceland, with our wonderful Icelandic Horses. Please note we have a weight limit of 100kg / 220lb, and riders must be aged 10+. We ask you to arrive at the stable 15 minutes before departure. We offer easy-going rides perfectly suited for beginners and people who don’t go horse riding often, but we welcome riders of all abilities. Our horses are friendly and sure-footed, perfect to enjoy the wild Icelandic terrain. The tours are mostly at walking speed, but for those who are capable there is the chance to try some tölt, the special gait of the Icelandic horse.

Fun experience, awesome views, cute animals
Really fun experience. Hilary and team were awesome and made the ride fun. The scenery was beautiful and the horses really cute. Would recommend highly.

Vik Horse Adventure lots of fun!

This was an awesome experience! Even in the rain, wind and cold, we rode the horses on the black beach and had a wonderful time! The staff was excellent! They were very friendly and helpful, especially to those who were not familiar with horses. We few who had some experience were invited to take the horses a little faster and experience their original gaits. This was so much fun! The horses were great and the beach was so beautiful with the surreal landscape surrounding! Must-do in Iceland!

Beautiful accessible nice
Canceled but visited anyway (very nice)

Gave us advance notice of possible weather cancelation (twice)
Do very early morning to get less wind.
40mph winds on sand
Very friendly management
Let us pet horses and take photos with horses
Great access to the beach -hold on to your stuff or you will be chasing it down the beach while everyone is laughing

Beautiful beach with the 3 troll stones and the Church Myrdal up on mountainside

Very easy to locate in downtown Vik

Great way to experience the black sand beach!

My husband and daughter (8) did the 30 minute beach ride for families with younger children. It was the highlight of my daughter's trip. It was a really great way to learn about the Icelandic horses that you see all around Iceland, and get up close and personal. The guides were kind and the trip felt very safe, with just enough adventure. I was worried it would be too much like a cheesy/guided pony ride, but it was just right for our family.

A highlight of our Iceland trip

During our two-week travel through Iceland, my spouse and I took the guided group stroll on horseback on the black beach of Vik. It was an easy going one-hour ride, perfect for me, an inexperienced rider. It was a typical afternoon on the south coast of Iceland–windy and pouring rain. I thought that made it an even more unique experience and resulted in one of my favorite pictures of my spouse and I together. The staff did a good job, especially given the weather. Following we went to the community center in Vik. Every town in Iceland has a community center with a playground, soccer pitch, basketball court, and a swimming pool. Sitting in the geothermal heated hot tub at the Vik community center, in the rain, was the perfect follow up to our black beach ride. Iceland, we miss you, and can't wait to get back. Thank you for your hospitality.

Thank you for riding with us! The weather can indeed be quite extreme here but we make the most of it and enjoy the rides anyway! Glad the pictures turned out well, and you are right that a soak in the town pool is a perfect way to relax after the ride.

Wonderful Icelandic horses and very helpful staff who taught you what to do and took pictures of the experience. Good fun learning how to "tolt", the Icelandic trot without the bumps. Thoroughly recommend.

Perfect activity for the beach in Vík

Great experience! The day I went happened to be a very windy and rainy day. No one's fault, that's Iceland for you. The guide said that the horses were used to it as Vík can be more rainy than other places, but that we would also be the last tour that day given the weather was so poor. However, decked out in my raincoat and expecting to be soaked by the end, I still had an awesome time. My horse was very sweet and we had a great ride along the beach. The guides stopped us to take photos with the famous rock formations in the background, and because it was so dreary and foggy, the photos actually looked pretty cool and ominous! My black horse against the black and hazy beach. Those who wanted got to jog on the way back and it was long enough to really get a feel for it. Prepare for any weather and this experience will be a great one!

We're really happy to hear that you enjoyed the ride despite the rain; being prepared for any weather and enjoying it anyway is definitely the right mindset to have for outdoor activities in Vík :) Riding in the rain and wind is one of the best ways to experience how tough and hardy the Icelandic horses are - as well as being sweet and cuddly!

A must do experience!

Had such a beautiful time with the black sand beach team. All of the horses are beautiful and friendly. The guides are very welcoming and make sure the experience goes smoothly. Good for beginner riders who want to take it slower while still giving more experienced riders the option to tölt!

Amazing Experience! Friendly Staff and Friendly Horses
This was an awesome experience! The guides were so nice and it was my first time riding and I didn’t have any issues whatsoever! The horses are all so sweet and the views were amazing! It was truly a great experience and it was the perfect length of time! I can’t say enough good things about this tour!

Really fun opportunity to ride an Icelandic horse. We did do some trotting on the beach and the guides stop and take photos for you. No experience is necessary as this is a nose to tail ride.
