- NeilFLanchester, United Kingdom1 contributionGreat place to visitReally good time on the tour of the vineyard. Tom’s talk is engaging and brings to life his and his family’s journey to create some fine Devon wine. A great cafe for food (although I just grabbed a coffee) and a lovely shop stacked full on locally sourced products - taking home a few more purchases than originally planned! Great way to spend a couple of hours.Really glad to hear you enjoyed your time with our winemaker Tom and your time in our kitchen too 🍷Written 1 April 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2023Travelled soloWritten 17 March 2023

Supper afterwards was delicious - so good to have opportunity to try local produce. A friendly, hard working staff team. Hope your project goes from strength to strength. - Robert H1 contributionA wonderful restful setting. To celebrate my 80th birthday my wife booked the family for lunch, when we arrived there was a slight delay as they were extremely busy. When our table was ready and we’d had a few photos taken,we were shown to our table and by way of an apology, treated to wine tastings of three of there delicious wines. Our food had been pre-ordered and as we chatted and enjoyed the wines, our food arrived which was beautifully prepared and tasted as good as it looked, mine was the roasted tomato and bazzle. Following this I enjoyed (well it was my birthday) the mango, meringue mess with a passion fruit liqueur to top it off. We all agreed that the service and food provided by this family owned business was second to none,so a huge well done to all…we’ll be back.So glad to hear we were able to help make your 80th Birthday celebrations extra special. See you again soon 🍷Written 16 August 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 28 July 2023
- amberfrances92Portsmouth, United Kingdom85 contributionsA great family run gem out in the countryside. We did the vineyard tour and then stayed on for lunch. Everything was soo good we decided to come back the next morning for breakfast. We got very lucky with the weather for the tour which was held by Tom and his dad. The vineyard, wine making and cafe is all family run and the whole property has such a nice community feel. For lunch we got the sharing board which was stacked with delicious local Devon produce. Breakfast was equally as delicious. The cafe itself is such a beautiful space that has big open glass doors that open out for views over the vines and surrounding countryside. All the servers are absolutely lovely and attentive. We cannot wait to see what they next bottle up.Thanks for sharing your kind words Amber! - BooksearcherBudleigh Salterton, United Kingdom97 contributionsSuch slow service that we left . Disappointed. We stopped off for a coffee but was very disappointed as the service was so slow. Indoors was noisy although only a few tables were occupied so we opted to sit outside. I feel they could do so much more to increase the ambience of the place - metal tables and chairs add nothing to the comfort. Having waited for half an hour we gave up and left.We are really sorry to hear you left disappointed when you visited us last week. I'm afraid when you joined us, and as our team did explain when you arrived, we had a flurry of coffee orders across the café which as you'd expect slowed our service times down. Our team always does everything they can to pick up the pace and all we can do is apologise for the 15-minute delay you experienced from placing your order. Your review has been seen by our full team here and they are reviewing if they can make any more efficiency changes to help reduce delays at busy periods.Written 16 August 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 August 2023
- Stephen P1 contributionAn informative and delicious experienceWe received a voucher for Christmas from friends to do a tour of the vineyard and have lunch, and what a superb gift it turned out to be. It is a family run business and they were all so welcoming and informative. Their story is a heart warming one, and they are all so humble about what they have achieved, through a lot of hard work. They clearly love what they do and the experience they provide. The food that we had for our platter was absolutely top quality and the wine was a bit special too The setting was beautiful and we couldn’t help but be tempted to come away with a bag full of goodies from the shop. We will definitely be making the trip from Plymouth again to sample some more of its gastronomic delights.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 August 2023
- SharonPlymouth, United Kingdom4 contributionsFantastic vineyard tour and lunchWhat an amazing place! Was given a voucher for 2 people for a tour and lunch, and it did not disappoint. The sun was shining which was a bonus - we started with a really informative tour around the vineyard and the wine making area. We then had a sample taste of the white, rose and sparkling wines - all three were delicious. We then had lunch in the cafe which was a sharing platter with local cheeses, cold meats, nuts/olives and bread & crackers and an amazing damson chutney. The gluten free version was great with good quality gf bread and crackers. Of course it was accompanied by a glass of wine each. This was followed by dessert which we were too full to eat but we were able to take this away for later, along with the uneaten cheese we couldn’t manage. The cafe has other lunch options so is ideal for a leisurely lunch or dinner which a lovely view, you don’t have to do the tour. There is a shop onsite which sells the wine and chutney along with other items such as crackers and gin. All the staff were so knowledgable about the vineyard and the produce and the customer service from all in the cafe/shop was top notch. We wouldn’t have known about this place if we hadn’t been given the voucher as a Christmas present but we will definitely be back and will tell everyone about it, a real hidden gem and great to see a family business doing so well.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 August 2023

5 star!
We visited for breakfast with friends; a really warm welcome, smart restaurant and shop, enticing menu, good service, excellent coffee, and the breakfast was beautifully cooked, and……..delicious! Add to that stunning views over the valley on a sunny winter’s day, very friendly staff and the temptation of a vineyard tour and tasting when the sun shines more consistently, it all adds up to an outstanding experience. Highly recommended!!

5, Tom was an excellent guide, very informative with some lovely tales, obviously very proud of his families business. Even Manny the cockerel didn’t match up, although did try his best to out shine Tom. Can highly recommend the white wine although the Rose is amazing, not being a rose drinker, was very pleasantly surprised.

This trip was a birthday gift; tour with wine tasting and cream tea. We stayed for lunch too. We were very fortunate with the sunshine but the tour would have been fascinating whatever the weather. This really is a family business spanning three generations. The views are stunning. The wines are very unusual and delicious. The cafe serves very high quality food. The service is fabulous. We would recommend this to couples, families, individuals or groups as a great day out. The cafe is dog friendly inside and out. The shop sells lovely Devon produce.

The tour guide was extremely friendly, entertaining and knowledgeable. Tom gave a great understanding of what it takes to run a vineyard and gave everyone an appreciation for the hard work that goes into each bottle of wine. I was also very pleasantly surprised by how fresh and delicious the wine was! After a fantastic tour and tasting we sat down for lunch and had a superb cheese board, which was served by the friendliest team I have encountered.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a glass of wine!

We really enjoyed this vineyard tour. It has a nice family atmosphere, explaining how the venture started more as a hobby than a business and then showing how it has grown. The tour finished with a tasting which, even though I am not a wine drinker, I enjoyed. We had been given a gift of a lunch platter too; this consisted of quality meats and cheeses with the emphasis on local produce where possible. Service was friendly and we were even offered a takeaway box for the cheese we couldn't manage.

We live locally and finally got around to a visit. We did the tour , wine tasting and lunch and the whole thing was amazing. The tour was fascinating as was the tasting session and the wine was surprisingly lovely ! The lunch was very tasty with great attention to detail and very friendly staff , nothing was too much trouble . Views across Dartmoor from the restaurant were some of the best there are . Will definitely be back and will be recommending to friends .

Visited Alders for a vineyard tour and lunch.
Tom our guide was an utter delight. Very informative and answered all our questions. Despite the weather being poor he made the vineyard tour interesting and amusing.
We moved into the distillery for the second part which again was very informative. He had great knowledge and obviously is passionate about his trade without being boring. We tasted both white and rose wines produced from the vineyard aswell as a caramel and chocolate vodka.
Our lunch was delicious and very plentiful. FOH staff were delightful and friendly.
Highly recommend a visit to this little gem.
Well done Tom
