Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The must visit church (for free) is located on a very attractive Italian style square (Pjazza San Gorg).

Having a look at the interesting interior of the church is recommended!

Warning: avoid the tourist traps with their terraces on the pjazza, especially "The Grapes" (bad food&bad service).

Opened my eyes, beautiful inside and out. The artwork was amazing and the atmosphere was so different from what we're used to

This church has such a beautiful interior that we visited twice on our trips to Gozo from our hotel on Malta. The exterior, with its impressive bronze doors,is also beautiful, and we enjoyed the view of it while enjoying meals and drinks in the restaurants on the square.

Situated in the St. Georges' square in the city center of Victoria - not very far from the square of independence - plus you can see the twin towers also from the Citadel ...
It was built between 1672 and 1678 and it is one of the landmarks and must see attractions when you are visiting the city of Victoria.
Dedicated to St. George - statues and frescos of the saint can be seen inside , among other baroque pieces of art. (the keen eye can spot 2 paintings of Mattia Preti - but due to the light inside it was not really possible to take some decent pictures).
Overall a beautiful church, very nicely decorated and loaded with frescos ... a true gem waiting for discovery.
Entrance is free of charge - but like in any other church donations are welcome.
So when you are in Victoria , on the island of Gozo , put the "Golden Basilica of Gozo" on your "to see" list, definitely worth it.

This is an amazing Basilica. We were amazed at the size of the cathedral and the ornate columns and ceilings. We spent some
Time here. A very worthy visit.

The Basilica is quite beautiful and the entrance is free. It cost something to get up in the tower though.

The church is just beautiful both inside and out with so much to see and so atmospheric - especially when the light begins to fade.

I usually never write a review but I have to say that this is one of the most beautiful if not the most beautiful church I have ever seen. Definitely worth visiting!

We ate our lunch in the square which is overlooked by the basilica. Unfortunately it was closed during our visit but it’s very impressive from the outside.
