- MarkymisfitChester, United Kingdom142 contributionsTerrific beach outingA great snorkelling beach with an underwater wall that attracted lots of fish of all types. Lovely red sand, nest cafe and good parking. Watch the stones as you get into the sea! It’s also shallow quite a way out so great for smaller kids too!Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 October 2023
- STme3 contributionsGreat day out on the beachGreat beach with a good set-up cafe and restaurant, showers and loos, fresh fruit and drinks stall, beach gear and lots of inflatables for adults and kids for purchase. Life guards on active duty and beach boys with sunbeds and umbrellas available €5 euro each for as long as wanted. We went on a Sunday so everything was there/open.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 17 June 2024
- Vicky M7 contributionsWe had a great day hereThere are several reviews saying the beach was dirty and litter filled. This was not our experience at all - there are lots of litter bins, and people doing litter picks. It was no more/less litter filled than any other popular beach. It has loads of mobile eateries and Knick-knack shops. I heartily recommend having beach shoes (which you can buy there) to cope with the fact that it is a rocky sea bed - the rock are smooth, but it is excruciating without shoes. It was not a particularly easy walk in/walk out of the sea process for me (50), but my kids managed just fine! And it was so worth it! Wonderful to float in the Med! Umbrellas and sun beds available to hire (€5 per item). Recommend as there is no shade. I know there are more quiet, picturesque beaches, but for a family day this ticked the bill for us - cold drinks, icecreams and food available, with lifeguards on the beach.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 5 August 2024

We visited the beach on 2 separate occasions during our stay on Gozo. Parking is on the road leading down to the beach and it does get busy but we never had to walk very far from the car. There are various venders selling souvenirs, drinks, snacks, ice cream, beach inflatables etc all along the roadside and there is a snack bar and toilets just off the beach. Sunbeds and umbrellas are also available for hire at 5 euros each for the day. This sandy beach is popular but it never felt too busy on either of the days we visited. Great for all ages.

The beach is quite easy to find and there is parking along the road and a car park (€2) at the bottom. Lots of food and drink stands available and lifeguards. Can hire umbrellas and chairs if you need but loads of room to just put your towel down. Water is crystal clear, shallow and calm. Very safe for kids. It was close to our apartment but worth a drive to visit it.

My husband and I took a Bolt from Gigantija to Ramla Bay and arrived around 11 am. We bought two towels from a truck by the entrance and got a snack by one of the cafes. Then we rented an umbrella for $5 and enjoyed a few hours of sunshine and sea. The orange sandy beach was clean, the water was clear, and we had a great time. I was surprised how clean the restrooms were as well. There was a line for the 2 outdoor showers to rinse off.
After we were done swimming, my husband waited at the café while I hiked up the hill to Calypso's Cave. The remains of a Roman villa are just past the restrooms.
Our Bolt driver warned us that the beach would be crowded, but it didn't seem that bad to me--and we visited on a weekend day in July. It did seem more crowded when we left in the afternoon.
Parking seemed limited, so I recommend arriving by taxi/Bolt/bus if you want to avoid that hassle.

So we took the hop on ferry to Gozo, then took the hop on red bus, got off at Victoria and changed to route 2 the blue route which dropped us at Ramla Bay beach.
It was really amazing, a beautiful red sand beach with warm waters. A little rocky in the sea but warm and Inviting. Very busy on a Sunday, not with tourists but locals having some beach time.
Loungers and parasols were 15 euro for two and the dude will put them where you want.
The food shacks can provide snacks and drinks but we're very busy with a 30 minute wait time, so take a picnic would be my advice.
Last hop on bus back to the boat leaves at 18.00 sharp.
A very lovely little cove , well worth a visit.

We spent about five days on Ramla Bay during our 10 day visit to Xaghra. It really is a great place to relax and enjoy being beside the sea.
You can rent sun loungers and umbrellas (€5 each). There are kiosks there to get lunch (great menu selection). There's an ice cream van that sells ice-creams of course but also beers and you can get a large bottle of water there which is handy rather than having to buy small bottles. There are also toilets beside the kiosk and they are cleaned regularly and replenished with toilet paper etc.
The beach itself is very long and it's large too so you'll always have enough space. Best place to go for a swim or a dip is the far end of the beach as there are no rocks on the walk into the sea.
Really lovely beach and could happily have spent more days lounging there!

Unspoiled beach with red sands. I visited late afternoon and it was fairly busy but thinned out after about 5.30. There is very little development here, just a couple of restaurants/cafes sat back from the beach, plus free public toilets and outdoor showers. I walked here from Marsalforn via an 8km walk through the countryside via a village, advertised by the tourist information office. Busses run to and from Victoria every hour and a half, I got the bus back, it was on time, but the infrequency means you have to plan ahead.

Ramla Beach in Gozo is often promoted for its red sand, but in reality, it’s not particularly remarkable. The beach is crowded, largely due to recommendations on travel sites, and buses frequently drop off large groups of tourists, making it even more packed.
You can rent umbrellas for €5 and sunbeds for another €5 each. There are a few beach bars and restaurants within walking distance, so getting food or drinks isn’t an issue. Parking is available along the road, or you can pay €2 for a parking lot close to the beach, which was spacious even during the high season.
The water itself is nothing special—just a standard beach experience, without the crystal-clear waters or interesting snorkeling opportunities that you might find elsewhere. The beach is about a 15-minute drive from Victoria and the ferry port, but overall, it’s not worth going out of your way to visit. Unless you have extra time and nothing else to do, this is an easy spot to skip.

We had been there on a sunny day, was quite windy I must admit, but nevertheless the clean green water along the beach was lovely, not much of a crowd at this time of the year, so we had the entire beach to ourselves, 2-3hours easily spent.. Daughter relished the entire time there.. Worth the trip!!!

Do busses run from Mgarr to the beach
Written 10 July 2017
Not directly. All buses run through the city of Victoria (Rabat), so you would need to get a bus from Mgarr (Imgarr) to Victoria and then a bus from there to Ramla. It doesn't take long though, what with the Island being so small.
At present the bus between Victoria and Ramla is the 302 but I'm not sure which one is between Imgarr and Victoria.

Io ci sono arrivato tramite Hop off hop on. È un servizio, sia privato che pubblico (controlla gli stop. io ho usato se non erro il servizio privato), con autobus che in maniera continua passano e si fermano in vari punti turistico. Scendi se ti piace l'attrazione e poi prendi uno degli autobus successivi.

Is it true that the rocks in the water near where you first enter are actually a part of a wall that was once set in the sea to stop the enemy from entering with their boats? I heard this once and wondered if it is true.
Written 1 July 2015
Yes , it is like that. It was used to stop the enemy. There are a few different defense institution on the island to protect from invade conquerors in the past.
