When I first saw the cost if €15 to enter this cathedral, I thought better of it. I travel on a budget. However after looking into the costs of several entry fees, I chose a guided walking tour which included entry to the cathedral. We entered by a seperate pathway, adjacent to the public entry, and our guide continued her dialogue inside. What an absolutely amazing place. From the iurside it looks plain and non description but the work to decorate inside is absolutely amazing. I would recommend visiting this place and if you can, make sure you have a guide as the Maltese history is very complicated.

    Amazing building and amazing history!
Amazing building and amazing history! The audio guide was very good and really added to the experience. The cathedral is well worth the visit, but even in October towards the end of the summer season it was still quite busy. I recommend to buy the tickets online, this way you can skip the long queue at the entrance.

One of the best art sites in the whole world. Everything here is overwhelming from top to bottom. Caravaggio's painting is definitely one of this place's attractions. Located in the center of Valetta, you can also enjoy this medieval town's charms.

AWFUL EXPERIENCE!!
On 18.3.2024, I purchased tickets for myself and friends to explore the exhibits, enjoy the religious experience the museum offers, and pray at the Cathedral (during catholic easter holiday). The tickets were mentioning a specific date of use, this of 30.3.2024 (the payment and issuing of the tickets was made earlier, from our country - Greece, on 18.3.). The date of use (30.3.) was the exact date we travelled to Valletta for this purpose, to visit the museum. Both were closed. You can imagine our disappointment and inconvenience. There was no official announcement at museum's site about 30.3.2024, and only when we arrived there, we saw an announcement outside the museum, but it was already too late. We returned to our country, so there is no possibility to use these tickets on another time.
We kindly insisted on addressing several emails to the museum's contact address (email: stjohnscocathedral.com) in order to request the refund of the value of the tickets but since today this self-evident issue has not been settled.

Never actually made it into the museum. The Caravaggio exhibit was closed one day so we decided to postpone till Friday. Arrived excited on last day of our vacation to see that museum closed at 11:00 that day. This was not posted earlier in the week when we were there. Poor management!

To get inside you have to wait in a long line. In my opinion, the ticket price (15€) is not adequate, for such a price I expected much more... I wouldn't say that this object is a must-see, because I personally didn't like it very much... It was nice that the price includes an audio guide, it's just a pity , that it speaks very very broadly and at length without telling the most important and concise. In order to get inside, you must also be properly dressed - your shoulders must not be exposed, but if you are not, you will be given a cloak for free on the spot.

Not really a must see due to the cost (15 euros) unless you absolutely must see paintings and ornate altars. Quite small and not much to do except listen to quite boring history whilst looking at paintings. (They provide you with an audio guide) I would pass this and do something else unless you have alot of money to spare.

NOqhere near as good as I was lead to believe by all the hypoe of it being best and most must-see place in Valetta. I was disappointed and totally underwhelmed. Especially as we had to line up for a long time to get in. Far too much Gold it just didnt do anything for me and I left disappointed

The church should have been open by 09:30 o‘clock, but somebody decided to change opening hours to later. As one guide said, it‘s due to Covid-19-restrictions, which doesn‘t make sense, as you‘ll have more people visiting the site during a shorter time frame. Also it probably won‘t be the small group of people visiting churches and museums who will be reponsible for the second Covid-19-wave. But there must have been a very very smart person behind that decision to close musems on mondays and tuesdays and changing opening hours at short notice. As a tourist interested in culture i do NOT feel welcomed in Malta and am not sure i‘ll come back to Malta again.

Constructed after the Siege of Malta, this ornate cathedral celebrates the langues of the Knights of S John in a series of side chapels. There are paintings by Caravaggio and heraldry at every turn.
