Soaring heights

One can only view this by joining a boat tour from the Vestmann Tourist Info office with a pre-booked tour. We joined a combined tour by a private company that took us to see the cliffs and Mykenes island. The cliffs soared high and the boat took is thru tight rock formations. Spectacular views of birds and their nesting areas.

Nice scenery.
Aug 2020
Expect rough seas and possible 4 seasons in 2 hours time. The scenery is spectacular, but if you want to see birds (as a birdwatcher), you'll be disappointed. The birds are high up the cliffs, whilst you're down at sea level. You'll see them fly over your head by the hundreds, but that's about it. if you want to see birds, you'll have to go to Mykines.

Stunning and green

We had a fantastic trip sailing along the big bird cliffs. Going through the bay from Vestmanna to the cliffs was so beautiful. We sailed into a cave and between big rocks _it was great.

Amazing trip - well worthwhile
Aug 2019
It was a pretty dreary day when we travelled - but still the trip was great. The boat was pretty crowded - more passengers than seats - so around 8 people had to stand outside in the rain. Didn't matter too much as when we got going a bit - and the cliffs emerged - everyone wanted to be outside to get the best views of the towering amazing cliffs. Enjoyed going in and out of the grottos - even though we didn't see any birds or seals. Interesting trip past the salmon fisheries. Heaps of puffins flying high out from the cliffs - but VERY high up and hard to photograph without a super zoom lens. Saw 2 large rookeries in the green tufts of grass high on cliffs. Amazing sea scapes. A really enjoyable 2 hour cruise

Excellent trip
Jul 2019 • Couples

Although the mist was down for most of the trip from Tórshavn we were lucky that the weather improved and had beautiful views of the cliffs and some birds, Fulmar, Puffins in particular.
Trip about 2 hours by boat and much enjoyed and don’t forget your binoculars.

Spoiled by boat driver
Jul 2019 • Solo
I went on this trip recently, and was disappointed. Although the cliffs are indeed spectacular, even in the rain, the whole trip was spoiled for me by a maniac boat driver who raced along for most of it, causing the many birds we might have seen to be scared off. Yes, there were thousands of Fulmars (a gull-like bird) flying, but also lots of Puffins and Guillemots swimming on the sea, trying to catch food for their chicks. Sadly, at the roaring engine and huge bow wave, nearly all of them dived under in fright long before we got close enough to see them properly. I also thought the fairly small boat was overcrowded, and the speed made the trip very cold even in July.

A lovely boat trip along the cliffs
Jun 2019 • Friends
We bought or tickets at the pier the same day we traveled. A Sunday in the beginning of June. A modern bot with good space at the deck to really experience being out along the cliffs and into the depth of caves.

Great trip to cliffs and grottos
May 2019 • Couples
We had a great trip across the fjord to cliffs on Vágur, saw some seals and the the so called witches finger. It was nice to see between the rainy squalls that day. To see the cliffs from the water is quite a different experience than from above. The boat is well configured, with indoor and outdoor seating. It was great viewing outside, but on the cool side as we headed back into port. The only thing is that this was not the Vestmanna cliffs as we had expected. Perhaps it was too rough to go there, but there was no indication that we were not going to the Vestmanna cliffs. We suggest that customers be better informed of the situation.

Even in April a nice excursion (no puffins)
Apr 2019 • Couples
This is a nice excursion going close to the cliffs and caves. The cliffs and the rocks are impressive. Unfortunately April is not really the time to book this tour to see nesting birds. We knew that but don't be surprised if you go that time of the year and you don't see them. There are a lot of sheep on the steep cliffs. The rock formations are great and the caves are truly impressive. The sea was very rough that day so if you have any issues with waves and your stomach it might not be the best idea on a day with rough sea. All in all a pleasant tour.

Remarkable trip despite heavy rain and white-capped seas.
Sep 2018 • Couples
We were on one of the last excursions for the year, in September, and were surprised at how close to the cliffs the boat approached, navigating through the sea arches despite fierce rain squalls and rocking seas. In such weather it may not be for everyone, but it was definitely a highlight of our visit to the Faroe Islands. You may want to do it in warmer, calmer weather, however.
