Unusual and cool statue
Sep 2021 • Couples
We stumbled upon this very unique and yet, very cool art work. The statue has oxidized over the years, but still a really neat peice of artwork.

Very nice fountain in the heart of Luxmbourg, in the "Grand'Rue" instaled in year 1982 from a luxembourg artist with sheep compagned with the local military marches of old time; a rare specimen of Wll Lofy. Every one loves this fountain.

Curiousity to see on a walking tour
Jun 2019
Located at the end of Grand Rue by Rue du Fossé, the “Hämmelsmarsch” fountain, also known as the “Roude Pëtz”, represents the Luxembourg traditional "mutton march", celebrated in late summer. This bronze fountain was made by Luxembourg sculptor Wil Lofy in 1982 and represents a music band – an accordion player, a drummer, a tuba player and a horn player – together with sheep and two children holding an umbrella. The accordion player is apparently rendered after the sculptor, with the middle finger of the left hand allegedly providing social commentary on politics of the time.

Unusual fountain, musicians and sheep!
Sep 2019 • Couples
Very unusual fountain with water coming out from all over it! Depicts musicians on both sides leading sheep! If it was cleaned up a bit it would look great. Currently it’s a bit tarnished!

Very special
Jul 2019 • Family
The fountain is not so big, but it is very special. A lot of people always around. The architecture makes it interesting and different from any angle of view.

Hmm, .. this was interesting.

As you are strolling through the city - old city center basically - sooner or later you will find this place.
Now for us it was sort just a photo opportunity but for sure is more to it.
If you are on guided tour the guide will tell you all about this place - how the statue was put together, what is the story behind the sheep at the bottom of the sculpture, etc.
For sure those into arts will appreciate this even more.
And not to forget that this is a fountain - still, water was not really running, more like dripping here and there, not sure it this is how it supposed to be or not.
Overall worth stopping here - not sure if it does qualify as a landmark but it is worth 5-10 min of your time.

We really rather liked this
Sep 2018 • Couples
My wife and I came across this fountain during our tour of Luxembourg City.
We both like unusual things and this fountain rather appealed to us.
The whole bronze sculpture fountain has a whole lot going on - firstly the music band which consists of four members, an accordion player, a man with a horn, a man with a drum, and a man with a tuba. The bottom of the fountain is surrounded by sheep, but also includes two children under an umbrella.
Understanding the history of it all helps make more sense. Hammelsmarsch is a Luxembourgish custom. The musicians play a march that was used to lead sheep to the annual funfair. Back in the day the sheep served as prizes at the fair. (Sheep is Hammel in Luxemburgian, hence the name).
Furthermore the accordion player is a self portrait of the sculptor Wil Lofy.
Really pleased we came across this on our travels, and were able to find out the history behind it.
