Visible from far and wide yet so close you could almost touch it, the emblem of Liechtenstein towers over Vaduz on a rock terrace which can be reached along a romantic footpath. The castle was first built some 700 years ago. Since 1712 it has been in the possession of the Prince of Liechtenstein. Furthermore, since 1938 it has been the residence of the prince’s family, so it is not open to the public. The 12th century keep and the structures on the east side are the oldest parts of the castle.

You cannot enter the castle itself but it is a nice walk up. There is a spot from where you can get a panoramic view of the city. One tip - in Winter wear good snow boots. The tail can get really slippery otherwise.

Great experience. You can't go inside, but you can walk right up next to a royal castle without anyone bothering you or any lines! Some of the views along the walk to the top are excellent. I got my best pictures in Liechtenstein here. I visited in January, so there was snow everywhere. It was all very pretty.

Unfortunately the castle is closed for visiting. Still it's worth going there to see the beautiful view from up there.

You get a fantastic view of Vaduz from The Castle. Though the castle can't be visited internally, you can park the car a few hundred meters away and take fantastic photographs of outside and of The Alps.

It was interesting to see, even though only from the outside. Don't expect too much but the short hike is worth it in my opinion.

If you plan to visit the castle, you are going to be disappointed. (You can just see from outside. No trespassing into this private property). It is still a good hike and nice view from the top!

Beautiful (private) castle but high up on a hill with great views. It's a long climb so I recommend someone drive you up and drop you off for a few photo ops. The prince still lives here so there is no access to the castle or grounds.

It was for us Aussies, quite weird to be driving from one country into another within half an hour , but we did From Switzerland to Liechtenstein, to view Vaduz Castle. Not sure why people travel to here, scenery was not inspiring, and the Castle was dark and dreary But as we dont exactly have many castles in Australia , it... The walk up to the castle took about 20 minutes to get to the top. You are only able to look from the outside (no tours) as the castle is still in use by the Prince of Liechtenstein. The views were stunning!

Ranked #1 on here for things to do in Vaduz but all you could do is see from outside. Apparently the Prince lives here and doesnt appreciate us muddling through his private residence which is unfortunate because looks to be a fabulous place. Very scenic view over the valley so if you have a car well worth the 10 minute... More
