Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This church is off the beaten track but well worth a visit. Please note the roads are not made up on approach. What a beautifully stunning little piece of Cyprus! From the icons left in nooks within the cave to the altar which was set ready for visitors. We went on August 15th (the big summer holiday) and were the only ones there. It was peaceful and spiritual. As a hint, Google maps knows where the church is.

This little chapel is carved in a hill at Protaras, near the main road (paraliakos). this place is a little gem. The light enters in from the peak of the little hill and creates a nice atmosphere. It is better to visit the place at the afternoon which is more cool.

This place is cool. It's hard to get to. We were on a jeep tour. It's a church in a cave. Very unique.

Don’t go. We were greeted by a tank driving up the road to it and then two armed guards with automatic rifles started pointing them at our car. After a quick chat they said we could look at the church from inside our car and had to leave instantly.

A beautiful and unusual little church with great views and lots of open space around it for the kids to play and explore

We rented a buggy for a couple of days and this was one of (if not the best) the stops. We arrived around lunch time and we where the only people there. There are many tracks around and even google maps got a little confused. To hike the route we took would take quite a while so at least a quad bike should be used. This route is not suitable for unskilled moped riders in my opinion.
It's worth it just to see the natural country side and to escape the noise of the city!
The door will be bolted but it can be opened when you arrive.
Loved it.

This cave church is in the centre of natural land and has been used for many years. From a distance you can see a cupola(?) on the end of a rocky outcrop, it is only once you are inside the church that you realise this is a skylight allowing natural light into the church.
There are many cave churches in Cyprus and we love the way they are still in use and full of icons. This particular church is up a small flight of stairs and has a white-washed wall and blue door. Once inside take time to look upwards as well as at the immediately obvious icons. In one alcove we saw another icon and also there were some old wasp holes made with clay, fascinating and of no danger.
We also sat on the bench outside and enjoyed the view and cooling shade. Great for people who like to be away from it all and like to see historic sites...not huge or intricate but peaceful.
