Simplistic museum, featuring the 2000+ old coastal trading ship. Ship is a bit of an misnomer (looking through our eyes), this is a very small craft that undertook voyages from modern day Turkey to Greece and of course Cyprus.
The actual craft is well maintained, and kept in a semi darkness to avoid any physical damage. It is an interesting exhibit, and is well supported with approriate articles, such as amphora (and specifically how these odd shaped fragile clay storage vessels were transported).
This is a very interesting part of Kyrenia castle, and well worth viewing, as it underlines how international trade helped develop the town.

This place is a real jem to visit .Much more to see than just the shipwreck museum. The whole castle is wonderful but can get very hot once inside the main wall but there is a lovely little cafe where you can sit under the tree's .so peaceful.
Not great for very little children as there are lots of high points with no barriers.

The castle is huge and in a very good state of repair. The shipwreck is an astonishing exhibit and at more than two thousand years old must be unique. The items recovered with the ship really made a link with the five sailors who presumably perished with the ship

This museum is situated inside the Kyrenia Castle. You can see a shipwreck of a trading ship that is 2300 years old. It sunk after a pirate attack, it was sunken for centuries and found in 1967 by a local diver. The ship carried wine, cereals and amphoras from Greek islands Samos, Rhodos and Kos. There were also found so called curse tables, that the pirates put into the sinking ships to ensure that the ship would remain on the bottom of the sea.

On your tour of Kyrenia Castle, and included in the ticket price, this shipwreck exhibition forms part of many exhibitions within its walls. A must and very interesting exhibition which was both informative and well displayed.

This is amazing. To think of the skills shipwrights had some 2,000 plus years ago. This exhibit outshines even the Mary Rose at Portsmouth. There are also lots of huge wine vessels which were found on board too. A great exhibit for those interested in Roman and Greek ancient history.
