Kyrenia and Famagusta Excursion from Protaras

3 reviews
Explore Famagusta and Kyrenia in a single day tour from Protaras; this multi-stop excursion may be time-consuming or difficult to arrange independently, but this tour takes care of all the details. See the "Ghost Town" of Famagusta, wander through the old town center, then head out to the Pentadaktilos Mountain Range and a visit to Bellapais Abbey. In Kerynia, visit the harbor and the castle; all of these stops are accompanied by insightful guided commentary.

Its probably unfair to mark this review as poor because we never actually made it to the top! Our visit was in March and the weather was not the best but we decided to make the trip anyway. The road is very narrow with sheer drops on both sides, sharp bends and no crash barrier rail. If you meet somebody coming the other way there are very few passing places and so you need to be prepared to reverse back along the track. As we drove towards the castle the weather started to draw in and we decided it was safer to turn round (which was a scary experience in itself) and go back down the road. Shame because I would have loved to get to the castle.

Great morning spent for all our family, climbing up to Castle was ace, the Views were just amazing you can see St Hilarion and Kantara from the top if you look carefully. Sun was out and we enjoyed every minute. Free as well :) take water especially in the summer

Driving there is a little dangerous as there are sharp turns on a 1 lane mountain side. There is a car park at the start of your hike. There are steps that lead you to the castle which are on different levels. We went when the weather was cool and got very hot. I'd avoid this in the summer as you'd get very tired and sunburnt. I'd recommended bringing lots of water. At the top, the views are spectacular so make plenty of time to climb and explore. We were here around 2 hours just taking it all in.

Definitely the most difficult of Northern Cyprus castles.. quite a climb.. but the views were worth it.. just take a water with you as there’s nowhere around to rest or buy anything along the way to the top..
