This place was incredibly hard to find. A lot of walking and navigation required. Saw some nice farm animals along the way. Not clear signs directly leading there. I would recommend taking a bus if you don't like walking uphill or taking many elevators.

Beautiful garden and costal view. 5euros to get in but is wort it every penny. Plants from all over the world, a small koi pound and a cave. Very quiet during extra season but gets crowds during season. Next door is the Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology.

My wife and I happened on the the exotic garden during a casual walk around Monte Carlo. It is an extremely long garden which hangs on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranian. Both my wife and I are devoted to plants (she is a professional horticulturist). This garden provided awesome specimens of every imaginable Mediterranian plant. The size of the specimens was like nothing either of us had ever seen. There were rosmary herbs dangling several stories down the cliff. There were blooming woody tropicals several stories tall. I can't imagine how old the plant life was.

The views of the Med and the harbors below were equally as exciting as the plant lfe. This visit was surely one of the highlights of our ten day cruise.

Don't miss it!!!!!

After having seen the Jardine Exotique featured on the American Television show Victory Garden, I planned my trip to southern Europe around going thru Monte Carlo to see the gardens.

I was not disappointed. I visited the gardens in late September and appeared to be the only one in the gardens.

They are simply breath taking. Much more that I had imagined. Could not believe the size of the plants. Most of the plants that were tree sized we grow in small pots in our homes here in the States.

Again, wonderful. If I ever get the chance to come to Europe again, I will come back to the gardens because, of course, by then, as in the nature of all gardens, something will have changed.

It's hard to impress this jaded garden lover, as I have been to so many across the world. However, this little gem in Monaco had me thrilled to the marrow. Somebody with a lot of money and a love for cacti managed to build this essentially on the side of a cliff, with fabulous views of the coast. There are charming little walkways and ponds, and even an underground cave. Who would thing you'd find an astounding assortment of cacti from South America and Mexico on the Mediterranean coast? The climate must agree with them, because the specimens were huge! Some of them looked so bizarre they may as well have been from Mars. Take the bus up to the gardens or you will be too worn out to enjoy them once you get there. There are a lot of stairs and some moderately strenuous walking.

The botanical gadens were nice. Mostly cactus well presented on fun paths along the hillside.

But the joy for us was in the views from the paths. Unobstructed views of all Monaco from a high vantage point. Stunning - bring your camera.

The other great surprise was the cavern at the bottom of the gardens. You go down 300 steps into beautiful underground caverns. Nice, well-lit pathways make it a fun adventure.
Take the bus from near the aquarium or park your car in the underground lot near the gardens (see signs).

The garden is exotic, for sure. Exotic for such purposes that it is exotically ill-maintained. It is close to cathedral.

I went backpacking with a friend and we decided to take a day off from the museums and casinos to see this beautiful garden. It was gorgeous and I remember we ooh-ed and ahh-ed a lot at the way the flowers and trees were arranged on the paths. It was a nice, easy path, and the weather was beautiful. The paths are well-kept and the staff is friendly. It was a nice break from the typical backpacker stuff. Most of the people who were there were families and couples wandering around. It wasn't too crowded, and I found it quite peaceful.

We walked to the Exotic Gardens from the train station (uphill, about half-an-hour), which was signposted and easy to find. Bus number 2 goes from the railway station and terminates at the gardens. The gardens are free on Sundays with an entrance charge on other days. The ticket includes a visit to underground caves and a museum. There are toilets at the entrance with a fee and free toilets at the caves. There are very good views of Monaco from the gardens and plenty of viewpoints. The gardens are on a steep bank with lots of cacti and other exotic plants and sculptures. There is a recommended route through the gardens. At the bottom, there is an entrance to caves, where there is a thirty-minute guided tour available on the hour. There are some 300 steps to descend. On the return path to the entrance, there is a small museum with some archaeological artefacts. We were met by a lady at the entrance who gave us a free tour (we gave a tip at the end). Allow around two hours for a visit.

A local lady found us lost en route to the Jardin Exotique and kindly walked us most of the way. If you decide to go there do not walk as the signage is typically for drivers not walkers. Take the no.2 bus and walk approx 5 mins up the hill from the last stop. It was 7 euro for entry, a bit pricey for how small the sight is. The best part of it was the views from the hillside of Monaco. There is also the option to enter the cave which looked very interesting but due to small entry numbers to the garden, you would have to be there in the afternoon to avail of this sight. Although there are a lot of negatives, the cacti and succulents were impressive. Certainly not wheelchair accessible!
