If you visit Hallstatt a must see is the Museum. The area has been continually inhabited for around 7,000 years and on exhibition are artefacts which tell the Hallstatt story and the Iron Age celtic culture which became known as the Hallstatt Culture.
This museum near the lakeside, carries a lot of exhibits local to the area, including of course many referring to the well known salt mine. Not always open, so check timings carefully before planning a visit.
Tourists who visit this place should also visit this museum to get a better understanding of the unique character of the town. Beautiful displays, beautiful very special archaeological finds that made this town the 'type site' of an Iron-age culture. Must see.
