This is an excellent display, well interpreted and rich in the details of how very prehistoric the salt mining has been in this fascinating area of the Eastern Alps

This museum near the lakeside, carries a lot of exhibits local to the area, including of course many referring to the well known salt mine. Not always open, so check timings carefully before planning a visit.

Even if you're not a "history buff", this museum is definitely worth a stop. It is well organised and has many interesting displays of artefacts from the old Hallstatt to the new.

Tourists who visit this place should also visit this museum to get a better understanding of the unique character of the town. Beautiful displays, beautiful very special archaeological finds that made this town the 'type site' of an Iron-age culture. Must see.
