Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This quaint town square is surrounded by accomodation restaurants and shops.
There is a statue in the centre and some seats to take in the lovely views.
From here you will hear the waterfall in the mountains and see some of the waterfall in the distance.
Lovely calming sound.

This place is like a fairytale. Always wanted to go and it did not dissapoint. The architecture is amazing, the flowers everywhere are lovely. It's a small place, so you will be in the square within a minute after you arrive by boat.Deffinitely worth a visit.

No matter where you enter tiny Hallstatt, you are bound to come across this square in Old Town area, and guarantee you will stop and take at least 1 photo just like every other visitor. If you’re looking for photo opportunities of Holy Trinity statue and/or pint sized square with no strangers in the picture, have to come here very early or very late in the day.
Aside from photo worth ltaking closer look around square. Along one of the buildings is a pear tree that takes on a 2 dimensional look. There is another one on main drag as you head to Lahn part of town. Never saw anything like it before.

One of the most beautiful towns you will ever visit. The views are just magical and out of this world. The central square marktplatz is nice to relax. We had icecream which I think is part of Darbl cafe. Lovely icecream .

We newer saw anything as charming as this town before. It was like a fairytale. Lake, Mountains in the clouds, flowers in the windows... All of that creates unbelievable impression. Sunshine or cloudy day but still you will get a pleasure from visiting this town. Make sense visit Hallstatt from Munich or Salzburg even from Vienna. Good photos can't convey the beauty of this place. Certainly you can enjoy the pictures, but try to see it in reality.
Driving time from Munich approximately 3 hours. From the parking lot is about 10-15 minutes walk to the Markplatz. Boat ride and cable car are very close.
I think one day is enough, but it is worth visiting.

I don't know if it is the salt mine (not a must...) or the very uniqe landscape, or both of them, gave Hallstatt the right to be listed on the UNESCO world heritage list, but there is no doubt that this little picturesque town is one of the most beautiful sites all over the world. The colorful buildings on the lake and on the hilly slopes, the winding little streets, the spectacular Marktplatz, and mainly the reflection of all of it on the lake is amazing, too beatiful to be true.

Large numbers of very rude tourists (from a country with the largest population in the far east) have ruined this beautiful idyllic village in Austria's Salzkammergut region. They come by the bus loads and the town has apparently imposed no limit (like they have in highly touristed spots back home in California) on the number of visitors being deposited on an hourly basis.
The most difficult part is their behavior which is so over the top obnoxious it's truly amazing they don't see it themselves. We followed one group of young 20 something girls down the main village street who were laughing and giggling as they swooped around with this extension device that attached to their tablet that allowed them to film their surroundings with them in it--so every shot was a group selfy. Another group of young girls were in the center square filming each other leap into the air until they caught the just right mid air shot. Earlier in the week while in Salzburg there were swarms of these rude tourists who were being led down the main shopping street, near Mozart's birthplace, by their goofy tour guide dude dressed in lederhosen wearing a bright orange hat with a feather in it waving a flag so his group didn't get lost. Thankfully they don't like to hike, go to museums and explore the outer reaches of this beautiful region so getting away from them isn't too difficult.

A must see attraction with much history of the area and very interesting locale. The weather needs to be sunny to make this enjoyable as it is outside.

having read so a any reviews saying that Hallstatt was the outstanding town of the region. I was disappointed. Yes, it is picturesque, positioned along the cliff face overlooking the lake, with the Alps looming. However it is completely a tourist town, you would be lucky to find an Austria there, it's overrun by Asian tourists bussed in for the day. The shops are full of tourist tack, and the restaurant prices are inflated, and don't get me started about the expensive car parking. If you want a picturesque town, go to St Wolfgang

Hi. Does anyone know if there's a place there where we can leave our luggage? We plan to do a day trip to Hallstatt from Salzburg, before going to Vienna afterwards, so we'll be carrying our backpacks etc. Thank you :)

It was fine when I was there from May 20-23, though not sure about current conditions - double check online and possibly call/message your accommodation or tourist office.

Would you be able to accommodate a baby shower of up to 30 people?

I heard that the gallery will be open on Wednesday nights until Valentine's Day and that there is no admission fee from 5 pm to 8 pm. Is this correct and if so will this apply for Wednesday evening, February 4th and 11th?
Thank you,
