We planned a visit to the Mauthausen Memorial while driving from Salzburg to Melk. The memorial was much larger than I had expected. We were there for at least two hours and probably could have stayed longer. There is no fee to get in unless...More

A well presented and informative memorial. The sculptures are respectful and thought provoking. Well worth a visit and pay for the audio tour. Exhibitions are very well thought through and should appeal to older children and school trips.

As all such places I've visited worldwide, I cannot give them either 5, nor 1 star. This place is not an attraction, it's not a touristy spot,....it's a place to pay your respects and a reminder such atrocities never to be forgotten or done again....More

It is a sad reminder of the past, very thoughtful preserved and a must see place for people of all cultures. Audio guided tours in various languages are available. Very informative.

We all do know history and how things were back then. The way they arrange this place is a little bit missing the goal.

Our visit to the memorial was a splendid one though it was extremely cold for a spring time visit, and rainy, but it did bring out the dramatic effect as well. The Mauthausen memorial is truly a jewel historically speaking and how parts of it...More

This is a very well preserved WWII concentration camp set up by the Nazi regime. It is a powerful reminder of the horrors that can be wrought in the time of desperation, confusion, anger, and war. The self-guided tour takes you through the multiple buildings...More

While of course this is a very solemn and historically important site reminding us of the atrocities of WWII, it is very well done. A numbered self-guided tour takes you through the various buildings, including where prisoners were kept and the horrible steep hill where...More

It is not a touristic place. It is a historical, memorial and necessary place. I cannot say "I loved it" because it is not a place to love. It is a place to visit, think and make reflections about who we are, what we did...More

This was the first concentration camp that I had ever visited. We used the audio guide which I recommend because it explains all areas of the camp very completely & thoroughly. This is history that is very hard to see and understand, but the story...More

I just rented a car from Vienna and drove there. It is not too long and it can be done in one day easily.

I strongly recommend you to rent a car or go there by bus, since you'd pay a huge amount of money for a guide while the audio guide is soooo great and costs only 3€. It gives you all kind of details that I don't think a... More
