Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One for the view over the city from the top floor. Good place on a wet day.
There are two lifts, chose the right one.
Another point for the interesting building.
Nil for the art. Almost nothing to see as new exhibitions were being installed.
At least it was free.

The whole exhibition is in German. Considering that Graz has been European Cultural of Capital in the past, eager to share its heritage, I don't understand and I can't justify this choice. Without a support of any kind I found myself wandering in a room full of stuff that could have been easily a garage belonging to a hoarder. Engines (?), projects, videos of people talking about something I will never know and so on. A waste of money. I suggest to enjoy the building from outside.

Such a beautiful building from the outside however the current displays are a perfect example of why artists starve... useless photography and so called art. My grandchild's grade 1 class make more interesting paper mache art than what we saw in the Franz West Autotheater... and they are claiming that he is "one of the most important artists of our day". Other than a 3 or 4 of the 30 "Milk Drop Coronet" exhibitions on the "Virtuosity of Thingness", (there's a mouthful for you)...this was a joke.
Not only do they charge money for these snooty displays... they don't allow you to take pictures... and we think we now know why... because unsuspecting suckers like us will continue to be attracted by the beauty of the building and confuse it with the contents of it's interior... and pay to do so. Old Graz is a much more interesting display of art and architecture and many of those great artists and carvers and statue builders of which many of them remain unknown or anonymous.
The view of the city from the building was decent, but not any better than from other elevated views around the city.

Some aliens dropped an upturned cows udder in the middle of a beautiful old city. The city is divided on this I am told. 50% love it and 50% ar as shocked as I am. In a modern setting it would have been art niveau but not here. It is like placing the star ship enterprise next to Buckingham palace as an attraction.

Appreciated the architechture but we thought it a 'Blot on the landscape' Anyway, we gave it a go! We found the space dark and empty inside and the exibits depressing to say the least. We would not go again.

The visit of Eggenberger Schloß was very interesting. The guided tour lasted about an hour and was informative. The ticket also allows you in several other museum of the city. The rooms in the castle were beautiful. Please note if there is bad weather forecasted, the shutters will be closed, and therefore some of the rooms may be a bit dark. You also can't take pictures of the rooms visited during the guide tour.

Kunsthaus Graz is a contemporary art museum whose organic architecture is a sharp contrast to the surrounding buildings that date from the renaissance, to baroque to neoclassical. The galleries are wide open and, when we were there, the most evocative exhibit was a Peter Kogler immersive light and sound experience.
Be sure toe visit the "Needle" on the top floor which is a glass-encased walkway with an amazing view of the Schlossberg and the old city. We also enjoyed the cafe and the gift shop.

The current contemperary automatic music playing exhibition was awful. The performance left our entire family feeling awful and sick. The shop and cafe were very nice though. Would not recommend spending the 9.5 euro for entrance.

The museum is known not only for its impressive exhibitions, but also for its unique architectural structure. Many call him the "friendly alien" because he stands out among all the traditional baroque buildings around him. The museum has no permanent exhibition, but a variety of temporary exhibitions that present different types of modern art, so that even if you were here once, it is worth visiting here also for the second time!

The admission fee is reasonable. It is recommended to purchase the entrance ticket in advance through the museum's website.

The museum is located at Lendkai 1.

Opening hours: Tuesdays to Sunday from 10: 00-17: 00.

How long should I visit? Between two and four hours.
