This trip was fantastic! To be honest, my family has never seen the entire Sound of Music movie but we had heard great things about this tour and thought biking around Salzburg would be more interesting than your standard walking/historical tour, especially for the kids. There was singing, dancing, movie trivia, movie secrets, and Leo was a very engaging and entertaining guide. The ride itself was beautiful and enjoyable. We enjoyed participating in all the reenactments with fans of the movie and did not feel at all that we were missing part of the experience by not having seen it. In fact, this tour has convinced us to give the movie another try. Seriously, whether you love the movie, have never seen it, or are somewhere in between this tour was a great experience.

A fantastic experience seeing beautiful Salzburg in and outside the city with Tom (UK), our wonderful Sound of music guide for the whole morning.
You don’t need to be a Sound of music fan to do this tour. This is something everyone should experience - adults, teenagers and children who can cycle independently on an average sized bike.
The hills were certainly alive with our guide Tom, who brought us up the hills and through the city.
It’s also not necessary be very fit to do this. The few hills we did have to go up, you could walk up with your bike if necessary. We stopped off for 15 minutes a couple of times also to take in the wonderful scenery from above as well as Sound of music locations.
Tom explained everything (in English) enthusiastically and went through the exact scenes from the sound of music we visited and even danced for us 😀
There are various photos of all the Sound of music scenes on each bike, with baskets and gears.
All in all, a must see when you visit Salzburg and a definite must to do this bike trip with
Fraulien Maria’s bicycle tour.
I would recommend at least watching the movie beforehand or even treating yourself to the musical if possible!!
Thanks to Tom and team for making our trip in Salzburg 😊

We had amazing time with our guide, Sabrina! She made everyone feel welcome and included the entire group in the Sound of Music trivia throughout the tour. I am a big fan of the movie so I really enjoyed learning new unique trivia. It was truly so much fun getting to sing along to the Sound of Music as we biked through the beautiful country side!
The bikes seemed fairly new and there were spares bikes hidden around almost every turn. One bike in our group got a flat, and Sabrina was able to swap it for a new one within 5 minutes.
I would give the experience 10 stars if I could!

This tour of the highlights of Salzburg also doubles as a Sound of Music tour, because many of the Salzburg highlights overlap the movie. But this is a feature, which gives the bike tour an emotional lift due to the upbeat tenor of the movie.
The bicycles were in excellent condition, and double-checked to make sure they fit each rider. Helmets for adults are available, but optional.
Leo, the tour guide, is very fluent in English, and is very knowledgeable about Salzburg history, as well as hidden details about the movie.
The bike ride was mostly flat, with a very short area where the bike needed to be walked uphill.
The ride was interspersed with numerous stops to discuss local sites, and although I haven’t seen the movie in decades, and don’t consider myself a fan, it was very enjoyable to see the others’ enthusiasm and excitement for seeing tiny details from the movie.
Our tour guide Leo not only was a great guide, and was able to help when one biker developed a problem, but seemed to actually enjoy being on the ride himself.
Although we had excellent weather, I think this ride would be fun in the rain, too.

Hello CareFree2010,
thanks for your feedback. Good to read that you had a fantastic time with Leo and you are right, leo enjoys being on the ride himself.
All our guides love biking and love The sound of Music, if you put those 2 things together in a beautiful town then you have the perfect day, as a costumer and as a guide.
So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, good bye.

Yes, I’m a sound of music fan but this wasn’t the main reason to take this tour. We decided this was a great way to see a lot of Salzburg in a short period of time. We were right. It was a cool rainy day but that didn’t stop a large group of folks from taking the tour. Johan, our tour guide, was incredibly knowledgeable about The Sound of Music and Salzburg as a whole. He was passionate about his job. We got to see many sites we would not otherwise get to visit on foot. Most of riding was on bike paths and pedestrian areas. Very little was on actual roads. Highly recommended. Thank you!

Dear Leo,
it isnt a shame to be a sound of Music Fan, it makes live even better as you can sing along the whole day :-)
Glad that you enjoyed the tour and the surroundings.

Great way to spend an afternoon! Kiki, our tour guide was wonderful. We biked and sang and rode in and out of town. Always safe. And well organized. I met a family traveling and we all sang together so there’s no feeling alone. 😊. Great end to a few days in Salzburg.

Our family had a fantastic time on the tour. The locations were stunning and riding on bike paths past fields of flowers allowed us to get away from the crowds in Salzburg and see where locals lived. In addition, when we played the Sound of Music soundtrack and sang along, it was fun and refreshing!
The only reason I am giving the activity four versus five stars is our tour guide was a bit short with a few people in the group. The group was large and he was inpatient with a two different couples when they did not keep up or follow instructions. In addition, the bikes needed repair. One of our bikes would not change gears and the chain came off the track twice with another.
Overall, this tour is much better than a large tour bus. I'd recommend the activity if you are in Salzburg!

The Fraulein Maria Bicycle Tour was easily my family's highlight of our whole vacation to Europe! Nadja was our guide and she was so down-to-earth and just a delight to spend the day with! She cared for us well as we navigated the city on bikes together and even showed us some great bakeries and spots along the way. We also learned a ton about the making of the movie that we will look for the next time we watch it. I think you get to see and experience so much more of the Sound of Music with this bike tour, and its less expensive than the bus!

This was the highlight of our time in this beautiful city. Mirella did an absolutely amazing job in weaving bits of a city-art tour, recommendations on what to do and of course details about the movie. I would recommend the evening tour (4:30) since it’s a bit shadier. I only regret we didn’t do the tour the day we arrived.

The ride was pleasant and the mood of the group was fun and enjoyable. I disco ered areas I wouldn’t have without this tour. The bikes are not the best (my rear break was quite loose and the speed couldn’t change properly). If you are looking for informations about Salzburg, i.e. a ride with a tour guide who knows informations about the city and its surroundings, answers questions and can give you recommandations, this might not be it. If you just wanna have a good time and have no need for informations then it’s perfect.

Dear Elyse,
thanks for your feedback, I wonder that you didnt get any infos as all our guides know the city and the Sound of Music. As you didnt mention the guides name i cant go closer into this thematik.
As the bikes ride many miles all day long it can happen that there are some small adjustment issues altough i try to discover them quickly and fix it.
Best regards

Do you do the bike tour in January?
Written 28 August 2019
I would contact them , this can be done easily by email, etc through their website.
The website states April through October; however, We made advanced reservations with them and took our tour in March of this year

Do you bike in the same lane as cars while riding in the city, or are there designated bike lanes? I am an entry level bike, not sure if I am confident enough to ride in the city streets. Does the route involve riding in busy streets with cars and pedestrians? Thank you
