We wandered into the university square in front of it as it had some food vendor trucks in it and we grabbed some food and sat on the church steps.
We thought the church was closed as it had some renovations going on in front of it. When we were looking around, we saw some people coming out of it. We finished our lunch and then went in for a look.
It was pretty boring and bland for a church and also very cold inside, colder than outside due to all the marble retaining the cold.
It had some artwork in it and looked like it was an art gallery. It actually was, which was weird.
Not something id go to see again.

The Kollegienkirche is the church of the University of Salzburg. It was built in Baroque style and dedicated in 1707 to the Immaculate Conception. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Historic Centre of Salzburg.

It is a big church, with with white walls without paintings - this gives extraordinary resalt to the colorful altars and altarpieces.

This beautiful church was almost empty when I slipped in for a quick look while on a Christmas Market tour in Salzburg. All of the seats have been removed, which actually makes it more impressive in my view.
The Kollegienkirche (Collegiate Church) in Salzburg, Austria, is the church of the University of Salzburg. It was built in Baroque style by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. Dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Historic Centre of Salzburg. It is now both the parish church of people connected to the university and a venue of the Salzburg Festival.

We visited this church around 10:30am on a Friday, and were lucky to find ourselves completely alone and able to view it unhindered. While some visitors apparently are unimpressed by the vast, white Baroque interiors, travelers who have toured many churches worldwide will find this a unique and beautiful cathedral. (There are also pops of color in the chapel paintings, etc. It's not ALL white!) This is a peaceful place in a very convenient location, one of the many spots that make Salzburg a wonderful city. Entrance to the cathedral itself is free. (Note: we were scheduled to hear a classical concert here during our stay but it was unfortunately cancelled due to a COVID exposure. I plan to return some day for another opportunity to do this as the setting is perfect for musical appreciation.)

It is a very impressive Church from the outside but is bland very white inside and disappointing as it did not meet the expectations it portrayed with its external beauty.

This is a large Baroque church in the more commercial part of Salzburg. While the exterior has wonderful detail, the interior is very bare. It reminded me a lot of the Pantheon in Paris where a former church was turned museum. Salzburg has so many amazing churches, so this was not one of my favorites. I'm glad I got to see it but I would not miss one of the more historic churches to see this one.

Consecrated in 1707 this is a stunningly beautiful creation in High Baroque style. A vast ornate facade on the square is a perfect introduction for what's to come inside.

Standing at the entrance the effect is awe inspiring, with the immense space in white. Marvellous lighting effects are created by the ambient illumination streaming through windows of disparate shapes.

Exquisite stucco ornamentation is throughout. The main altar area is gorgeous. A gilded art work alludes to the university as a sanctuary of learning with its figures representing learning and knowledge in music, philosophy, architecture, medicine and other subjects.

A further focal point is the outstanding organ that was completed in the 1860s. It was unsurprising to learn that Bruckner the famous composer and organist played here on several occasions.

One of the purest examples of baroque architecture in Austria is often overlooked despite the fact it is second only to the cathedral in size, and has an impressive convex façade. The main hall has white walls without paintings - sparse use of sculptures and stucco works highlight the architecture. The side nave altars are elaborate and have intense colours.
Collegiate Church was built between 1694 and 1707 for the Benedictine university. The university, disbanded in 1810, was reopened in 1962 as part of the University of Salzburg. In 2008 it was designated the parish church for people connected to the university.
The church has been a regular venue for sacred and choral concerts of the Salzburg festival since the 1970s.

This church seems to be used more as a concert hall and gallery than a place for religious services. Once you step inside, you'll be surprised by the sheer size, starkness and indeed emptiness. Architecturally it's very impressive and the white washed walls and stone floors give it a very imposing design. Check out the pickle statues in the gardens outside.
