The old town is very nice with all the churches, the restaurants, the museums. You can just walk to see the old town because cars aren’t allowed in this part of the city. There’s Mozart’s house and a lot of nice houses.

We arrived early on the first day of the Christmas market. Salzburg is perfect! So many beautiful buildings and sights. That day we had perfect weather with blue skies and sunshine giving a splendid backdrop to the Christmas trees. The next day we had horrendous weather but it didn't spoil our delight to be in such a fabulous place. Of course we did the Sound of Music tour which took us into the mountains and revealed interesting stories behind the famous scenes. I would love to go again to see and do all the wonderful things for which we had no time. A guided tour would be a good idea. Go! It would be impossible to be disappointed! Go to the Mozart restaurant and try the special Salzburg dessert modelled on 3 mountain peaks. The Holiday Inn was also excellent. Do go!

Salzburg is a wonderful location. We found it very clean, and never felt unsafe anywhere we went. There are lots of things to do and see - made even better/easier with purchase of a Salzburgcard which gives free or discounted entrance to many attractions there. For us, even without use of public transport it paid for itself and more over three days of attraction visits. Don't miss the walks up to high points over the city (the high fortress can be reached via the funicular railway. If you like Mozart, this place is a treasure chest for things to see - and then there's lots of Sound of Music stuff too.

The old town was nice but it wasn't the most exiting we'd seen. It was easy to get to from the main train station by taking local transport. It has some nice things to see but didn't have an exciting vibe. Even though there were a lot of people in the main tourist area, it didn't really have an interesting feeling. Not the best old town we'd been to.

If you get a chance, visit Salzburg. It is a beautiful little town and easy to walk in. Don't really need to do a formal walking tour. It is an easy walk and if you do your homework ahead of time you can learn about the Sound of Music (based in Salzburg) and Mozart house. Go up to the Fortress to the cafe for lunch. Yes, you have to pay for a tram ride but it is inexpensive and the views are fantastic as well as the food at the cafe. Make sure you find the shop or the Salzburger Mozartkugel, these are completely handmade chocolates with a nut center. They were created in 1890 by a local confectioner who didn't bother patenting his invention so everyone is free to make them. But to visit the shop and get some of the original chocolate balls either to eat yourself or bring home as gifts is worth the visit. I recommend both options!!!

I hade visited this place, a long time ago. With my birth family. When I was a child (and when my sister, my father and my mother, were in this world…) I am willing to admit that I have changed, of course, since those old days. That the current, “modern” reality, could not correspond entirely to my childhood memories, feelings and impressions, in various regards. Having said that though, it is undisputable that the place itself has also changed. Too much. Alas… In any event, you definitely don’t need to stay in a hotel situated in the Old Town itself. You can easily get there from any other hotel in the general area.

We took a train from a ski resort town of Zell am See. The train cost included local Salzburg buses so when we arrived at the train station we took a 5 minute bus ride to Salzburger Altstadt (Old town), which is where most of the tourist attractions are located. Ornate baroque architecture, palaces, fortress, market Square, Mozart birth place, St. Peter's Abbey, Salzburg Cathedral, etc. Many restaurants and shops.

We spent a couple of hours wandering around the old town, which has many quaint shops and cafes. It was a busy day, lots of other tourists around! The area has a number of old buildings and churches, and it was an amazing experience to visit.

This is a really beautiful and romantic old town area. There are many small shops, some expensive stores, and also cute cafes. There are no cars on these streets, so it is very relaxing to just stroll around and do some window shopping. There are a number of churches, fountains, and museums to visit as well, including Mozart's Geburtshaus (birth home). I recommend allocating a few hours for wandering and enjoying a cafe or two. Add more time if you want to deep dive in some churches or museums.

We loved our tour of the old city of Salzburg. It’s so beautiful and there’s so much to see. We started in Mirabelle gardens then went into the old city, past where Mozart was born & where he lived. Also visited the beautiful cathedral and a few of the beautiful squares. We loved it.
