- Tina K7 contributionsBest views of all of Innsbruck.Take the cable gondola from the Congress station in Innsbruck all the way up to the top of the peaks. Fabulous views any time of year. Have lunch or drinks at the restaurant. You can also do a short hike even higher. There were even free sleds to use to slide on the hill. Highly recommend this activity!Visited February 2023Written 21 February 2023
- arnie wTexas128 contributions“Must” attraction in Innsbruck! We enjoyed this wonderfully-scenic ride; one of the attractions we chose to visit during our visit to Innsbruck, This train provides its passengers a spectacular view of Innsbruck and the Inn River flowing through the city. Passengers also have the opportunity to either rest at this level and enjoy refreshments and a wonderful view, or to take the cable car further up the mountain. This funicular is a “must-to-do” attraction for Innsbruck visitors and residents alike!Visited June 2023Written 14 June 2023
- Satu SHelsinki, Finland77 contributionsAbsolute worth goingAbsolutely the best views! If you want to go to the top you have to take 3 separate lifts up but they are well organized and easy to switch. Restaurants Seegrube is a nice and scenic place to have something smaller or bigger to eat or just to have drink. I think that this restaurant was nicer and wider menu than a restaurant upper (Hafelekar)Visited June 2023Written 17 July 2023

- opal98London, United Kingdom196 contributionsUnderwhelmedThis ride didn't meet our expectations. We were underwhelmed by this trip. The cable car ride was ok not something spectacular. The cable car to the top was not working on that day for some technical problem (best known by them) ,a big disappointment. The weather was fine though. The views there were nice. It is an expensive ride and should allow people to enjoy their experience fully. If they decide to stop any cable car should give refunds for that part. Hungerburgbahn ride was brilliant and offered stunning views.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 October 2023

This was a highlight of our trip. To summit a mountain was incredible. And it was nice to have the help of a cable car and gondolas! There is only a 15 minute walk to the top. Great experience!

The cable car settled my long held nerves and it was a really exciting but safe ride to the top. The summit was shrouded in cloud but that's life and actually provided a surreal experience none the less. I took hundreds of photos at each stage and really loved the experience despite the crazy price of the journey from bottom to top.

Buy the Kombi ticket online, then park in the Congress parking garage near the altstadt. Before you get on the funicular, at the ticket office, pay only 4 euro, for all day parking till 6pm. It was a bit cloudy, so we did not go all the way to the top. Check the live webcams weather before you go, to decide which station you'll travel to. We went to Hungerburg to enjoy the views, then went down to the Alpine Zoo (you may hike or ride). The zoo has some nice small natural habitats built into the mountain. There is a bit of walking up & down hills, so not the best if you need a wheelchair or stroller.

Highly recommended if you are with kids and the weather is warm and not foggy. We took advantage of the happy hr (after 3pm) and booked online to get 20% discount. I would say the price is quite reasonable as it involves 3 different modes of transportation and each one has its own charm. First one is Hungerburgbahn which takes you to the Hungerburg Station in only eight minutes. You only need to take a few more steps to reach the next cable car, transporting you further up to the Seegrube around 1900 m. After your arrival, the Hafelekarbahn takes you to the Top of Innsbruck around 2300 m , the highest point of your trip, in just two and a half minutes!
Beautiful scenery at each stop. Right at the top it was quite cold 6 degrees compared to at the city level around 20 degrees.

The views from the top, at Hafelekar, are absolutely amazing. It really is worth going right to the top, as this also gives you a great view to the north (away from Innsbruck) across valleys and more mountains. From the Hafelekar station there is even a reasonable walk up to the peak of Hafelekarspitze. The views from Hungerburg (top of the funicular, start of the first cable car) and Seegrube (top of first cable car, start of second cable car) are also well worth stopping to take in.
It is possible to drive to Hungerburg to start the ascent (or get a bus), but more interesting to get the funicular from the Congress station (which is just up the road from the Hofburg Palace).
There is a significant discount on tickets purchased before 9:30am (or after 3pm), saved us €8.80 each, compared to full price.

I am planning to visit Innsbruck in August. To reach Hafelekar, do you need to sit in a chairlift or is it a closed gondola? Thanks!

C'est meilleur de porter des vêtements chauds, le plus haut sommet est à plus de 2000 metres.
Nous sommes allés à le matin et la vue a été magnifique.

I'm planning a trip in the 2nd week of December. Will Funiculare Nordkette be open at that time of the year?
Ingrids527
Athis-Mons, France4,001 contributions
Hy Sagarika27, yes Nordkette is open all the time, except few days in spring and automne for technical revision. Be careful, don't miss the last funiculare to go down, there are always many people and if the number of travelers is achieved, you must stay outside ! you should at least go down by a tram 2 before the last one.
