This place is amazing. We sprung for the whole ticket, because when will we be Back? Who knows? Amazing architecture, acoustics if singers or organ playing. Crypt was amazing. One tower has an elevator with amazing views. The tallest tower has stairs. I repeat it has STAIRS. 340 or so. Narrow little very steep stairs. Not try this if you... More

When we arrived in Vienna and saw the Cathedral lit up at night it looked spectacular, especially with the Christmas markets and Christmas tree outside! Impressive on the inside too (donation only). We didn't spend much time here but it's definitely worth a visit if in Vienna.

A truly beautiful and spiritual building with a stunning spire and tiled roof. Beautiful stained glass windows and lovely architecture. We lit a candle for our loved ones and spent a peaceful hour in this holy place. There was a pretty Christmas market outside the cathedral which was worth a visit.

Nice Cathedral and Christmas market. Had the Vienna Pass so went on both towers and tour of crypts. Nice view from the towers, but cold and windy. The Crypt tour was interesting.

This church is quite breathtaking with it's architecture iand stained glass windows, which are amazing. We were fortunate to visit the church at around 7 pm and heard a recital by a young female singer who was practicing for a Christmas performance; it was breathtakingly wonderful and reduced us to tears. What an experience!

Centrally located, adjacent to Underground station and within the old town this ancient cathedral has witnessed almost 1000 years of history and it deserves respect, time and donations (free entry available but everyone should contribute to this outstanding seat of worship.) It is always busy and surrounded by ticket touts trying to offload “opportunities” to become part of the audience... More

Part of the Cathedral was under maintenanxe while I was there. We paid to take the elevator up to the top. We need to line up around 45 minutes before we could get on the elevator. Going up there once is enough, I would not go for the second time

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
