A must see! This is a beautiful cathedral with exquisite architecture. It's also close to many other classic landmarks in the historic district.

Stunning interior is worth a visit. I was lucky enough to attend Christmas Eve service here which gave me plenty of time to admire the art, architecture and ambience. The square around the Cathedral is equally picturesque. A handful of small shops and restaurants are make up three of the four sides. The fourth side contains larger stores. At Christmas... More

We loved this cathedral. When we visited it was full of fir trees! Two were lit but there were also undressed trees and the smell and effect were lovely. The pulpit is renowned and is highly decorated, gothic and fascinating. We also climbed the tower. I'm overweight and 50 and managed it but I don't recommend to anyone with heart... More

Incredible church. Ornate altar, apses, and vestibules. Most of the main areas of the church are accessible free of charge. Tours are available as is the elevator to go up the south tower, the highest point in the central district of Vienna. Awe inspiring both on the outside and inside.

A very beautiful cathedral on the outside and the inside. Very peaceful and incredible detailed architecture. It was very busy on Christmas Eve but it was lovely to hear some singing on the day. It is a very traditional cathedral

We hiked to the top of the tallest tower (think south). Leave your backpacks and bags with a friend at the bottom. The stairs are VERY narrow and it is two way traffic. Very difficult to pass people. The views are worth the climb!

The cathedral is really impressive with its scale and interior elements. It's one of the places that makes to think on human possibilities when good motivation is found :) There is part of cathedral that is open for free of charge visiting and some parts that cost ticket fee and even can be visited only in a group of several... Very beautiful church and it was open even it was a late evening. Roof of the church is fantastic. It is going through reconstruction so one part from outside was covered.

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
