Top ways to experience Madame Tussauds Wien and nearby attractions

The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Leopoldstadt
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city centre and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theatres, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.

Located at the famous amusement park Wiener Prater (in front of the Wiener Riesenrad, Ferris wheel), this wax museum is a place where history buffs, sports and entertainment fans come together. Totally, there are currently more than 80 wax figures. As it is typical for Madame Tussauds museums, there are some wax figures with local (in this case Austrian) stars (like singers Falco and Udo Jürgens, alpine skiers Hermann Maier and Franz Klammer, tennis player Thomas Muster, classical music composers, past Habsburg rulers ...) among other celebrities and famous people from the past and present time. Many of them are in their natural or significant environment (like Nelson Mandela in his prison cell). First visit there is surely interesting and entertaining.

However, price of a ticket is high (24 € for an adult person although there are possible discounts if you book it on the official website) but it is still low in comparision with some other Madame Tussauds wax museums around the world. It is also possible to book a combi ticket where a ticket is combined with a ticket for the Wiener Riesenrad. A visit lasts around 1-2 hours, so you can add it to some other visits in the Vienna city centre or you spend a day entirely in the Wiener Prater amusement park.

Placed in the entrance of the Prater you have to accept quite overpriced tickets at the entrance to get access to the attraction. After a quite long felt time in a queue you can finally check the museum out. Actually quite stressing to see some of the sculptures since there are quite a lot of people in it and all of them try to do some pictures as usually. Compared to London I was quite frustrated - the sculptures look more professional there or it is just because of a different light management. However - if I would go there again - I would only do this in winter. During summer it seems that the museum has not proper air conditioning system since it was awful hot inside. A question to a museum employee got the answer - that the whole Prater has as it seems only one main system. Sorry - that is poor. Wonder who is melding first - the sculptures or you. In the end of the attraction the mandatory tourist ripp of with in a shop that you have to cross before you can finally leave to the park and start to relax. Sorry I don't like to sweat for nearly 30 Eur entrance fee.

It is located in the attractions park where the Wiener Riesenrad is and other attractions. Very artistic work producing was statues for the celebrities and state persons. There is a souvenir shop and a cafeteria. The visit to this sightseeing is included in Vienna Pass and is on the blue line of the Vienna sightseeing bus.

This was totally not worth to pay for such a small museum. Usually the tickets are 20.50€, you pay 14.50€ if you book online at least 2 hours before. We took combined ticket for 22.80€ which included Madam Tussauds and Riesenrad (the Big wheel). The museum is nice to see if you're never been in one of these, but definitely overpriced.

If you planning to go the big wheel, go first to buy a ticket there, (the wheel is a few steps away) they have a combo ticket to both, nice to save a euro or 2,
I`d like more the madam tussaud in vienna then the one in london (but maybe it change since I visited 17 years ago) because this one is encourage visitors to "play" with the character, provide some fun accessory for a picture

I really enjoyed seeing the Austrian historical characters and ogling the dimensions of the Hollywood stars. Sissi was a charmer, Franz Josef had some impressive mutton chops, and I couldn't get over how Nicole Kidman's waist is only *this* big.
