This church is in the central area of Vienna. It may be overshadowed by St. Stephan's Cathedral, but it is well worth the time to find and visit. Architecturally, historically impressive, but more importantly understated in outward appearance yet rich when you take the time to discover. Don't miss it!

Great to spend an hour or so looking around the Church but for me the most amazing parts were the lift that takes you up to the roof of the Church and the visit to the Crypt!!!! Not for the squeamish ...... Just gives you an insight of how we are going to appear after our demise...... ;-)

This is a wonderful church just across from the entrance to the Hofburg Palace. It is quite plain looking on the outside, but has some real treasure for those who venture in. The marble carvings are amazing, and there are some primitive paintings in the stonework in the side chapels. The main attraction is the crypt, which you can see... More

The interior of the church is beautiful - but I want to focus on the crypt tour. This is held at 11am and 1pm on a couple of days a week - check the noticeboard outside the door for exact times (this is also the meeting place). Entrance is €6 per adult. Friendly guide spoke German and excellent English -... More

Very easy to overlook, but worth a trip inside. I haven't visited the crypt yet, as there was a service starting. Altar is impressive, as are many other parts of the church. A nice variation of visual elements

The best part of this church is the beautiful white and gold altar. It's a bit dark and hard to see, but get up close and check our the amazing carving.

This beautiful church has been undergoing spectacular renovations to its ceiling and frescos and offers twice weekly concerts featuring lighter classical music. Category 3 seats are fine as the acoustics are very good

Vienna has some magnificent churches that you can visit, one being Michaelerkirche (St. Michael's Church), found on the busy and important Michaelerplatz (St. Michael's Place). St. Micheal's is one of the oldest of Vienna's church being originally built in the 13th century. It is dedicated to Archangel Michael and includes a real mix-match of architectural styles as a result of... More

Located not far from Michaelersplatz, this un-assuming church has a most stunning altar. It's free to enter and definitely worth seeing the craftsmanship of the centrepiece.

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
