Even though I visited the market during morning hours, it was very impressive with a great variety of things to see, buy and eat. Since I scouted the city with bikes and seen several markets - this is the best to my humble opinion. The only weakness of it is the location - near the main road, which makes it... More

We stayed just behind city hall which was an excellent location for accessing the main Christmas market and cross the main road to access an array of high end shops, bars and restaurants.

Njoy a colorful evening in the ongoing Christmas market. Lots of stalls for food, drinks, decorative items, winter wear, chocolates etc. Tip- I suggest you explore first and then buy, you might find better stuff at good price!

If you're visiting Vienna for the Christmas experience then this should be your first stop. It's huge and with dozens of stalls selling everything from candles to decorations to toys, many food and drink stalls inbetween them too. Souvenirs and decorations are expensive for what you get and most things can be found in the other markets (and souvenir shops)... More

Visited the Christmas market here on Saturday evening. Huge numbers of stalls selling the usual Christmas gifts, decoration and food & drink. A lovely setting with the Rathaus beautifully lit and a large Christmas tree in front. There is an ice rink too.

We visited at night while the Christmas market was going on. It was a beautiful scene with the vendor stalls decorated in greenery and lights with he Rathaus in the back all lit up. Beside the food and crafts, there was the biggest iceskating rink I've ever seen. They apparently converted the park paths into ice and they even had... More

Came to Vienna to visit xmas market in front of Rathausplatz, Pretty setting with large skating rink around front and very nice Gluhwein to walk around market. This was in china cups as opposed to plastic ones where you burn your hands trying to walk around. Plenty of festive treats to explore and all in front of an impressive building.

The Rathaus is beautiful, yes. However the platz here is full of one of the best Christmas markets we've seen in Europe so far (up there with Nuremberg). The Rathaus towers overhead, there are hundreds of booths, live music, some kind of children's play area, an ice-skating track through the wooded areas around the platz... We were impressed.

very beautiful building in the middle of the city. the details in the building are astonishing, you can take a while to absorb everything in this arquitecture masterpiece. The only sad side was that they had the circus in the square in front of the townhall giving it a bit of a weird contrast.

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
