Their Christmas market is truly something to see, especially at night. There offer a large array of stall and great, warming drinks and good food. The market, however, is in the thick of the city so negotiating the crowds can be difficult and frustrating, especially when you're holding a cup of glühwein. I spilled more than one. Still, it's worth... More

We visited the market on a Saturday when it was so busy you could hardly walk around the stalls and the queues for the food and drinks stalls were up to 20minutes long. Returning on a Monday lunchtime the market whilst fully open was relatively quiet. The surprising thing was the number of visitors from the UK, Ireland and Canada.... More

In summer is movie festival for several weeks and in winter ice skating and christmas market. In between this times sometimes festivals and concerts. And also a beautiful place near "Burgtheater" and "Volksgarten" and in general near 1st district.

The open-air ice-skating arena was still operating well into Jan, however the dismantling of the Xmas market alongside caused a diversion. The ice skating to view alone was very entertaining and many an hour or so was spent each evening enjoying the atmosphere.

We visited the Rathausplatz as they had Christmas markets and the ice skating rink out the front. It was a lovely night skating in front of the beautiful old building. We were lucky and managed to get a car park but I imagine this would normally be very difficult.

If you have to visit a City, Vienna is the one to visit! Being a country boy at heart, I have an inbuilt dislike of cities, London leaves me cold. Vienna is the only city that I have enjoyed, really pleasant, reasonable prices, and fantastic buildings, I shall return!

As artistic as the whole city. I would not recommend parking there though. I think the fee is like 270€ the day?

It is a nice square with a good view at the stunning Rathaus. Not sure, whether worth a visit without entering the latter though.

Beautiful building from the outside. Was especially beautiful at night. The Christmas market was one of the best we went to. Definitely was less crowded during the day--very crowded at night.

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
