Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I am usually the least likely to like Modern Art; however, there were several exhibits especially those of the visual arts with moment that I enjoyed. In addition the Museum Quarter is an history architecture and structure and this building sticks out but I really loved the black stone edifice. The art inside was different than most modern art studios and I really enjoyed my visit here. It was my favorite part of the Museums quarter.

I am usually very excited to visit modern art museums, this time I was very disappointed. My son joined me, and while he really enjoyed the Banksy exhibition in Prague, he kept on asking ‘what is the point of this?’. Sadly I have to agree.
The exception to this was the Roma exhibit, which was small but hauntingly beautiful. The combination of the music and the plants was absolutely mesmerizing.
A previous reviewer stated ‘pretentious and lacking substance’. This ia probably the best description I’ve come across.

It’s not about whether I like modern art or not, this museum is really a waste of space for the community. In early June it reopened its doors after 6 months, however, the 3 lower floors are still in preparation (as the very kind lady at the checkout had promptly informed me). As for the 4 floors available what about, the spaces are mostly occupied by useless things or simply with little sense, half of the exhibition talks about racism and colonialism with different videos but very little art and substance. Worse than I remembered when I visited a few years ago. At least the entrance was free (with the NOE Karte), otherwise I would have had to pay the full price (exaggerated).

Terrible staff. Very rude and arrogant "students" of art. They told us that we do not respect the paintings because we were in 0,5 meter distance.
Additionally, site was advertising Andy Warhol and there was nowhere in the museum.
Some paintings were terrible and THIS IS A WASTE OF TIME!!

The museum and exhibition were created according to all the rules of modern art, or rather “without rules”. The building's architecture is impressive and stands in stark contrast to everything around it. The exhibitions inside are large-scale, and you can feel the professional curatorial approach to each exhibition. I recommend it to anyone who wants to gain a new aesthetic experience.

We have visited many museums of modern art worldwide. With great optimism we went to the Mumok in Vienna. The visit was unfortunately a setback for us. A disjointed, inconsistent exhibition. The attendants are extremely unfriendly to say the least. Training in customer friendliness would be a good investment for the majority of these Mumok ambassadors.
We will not recommend this museum to our art friends who also go to Vienna.

I don’t know much about modern art, but I’m open minded and like to do different things. However, this was a complete waste of time and money. Several floors of the museum were empty and out of use, those that weren’t were full of pretentious garbage that means nothing to most people. What a rip off. Stick to the Albertina and Belvedere.

The exibtions where tottaly dispointing with an introductory text that generally did not fit with the objects exposed. The visitors seemed "lost on the (lack) of translation". There was some videos with some political/cultural interest lost in the midlle of exhibitions. I think that before going is necessary to check carefully what is happening there.

Really bad vibe. I had to just get out of there. Lots of ugly items; i just about had a wtf at the snake one as an Australian! I just turned the corner and ugly snake thing is there. High ceilings, antiseptic atmosphere. Finally there was a totally out of place Degas ballet dancer. Incongruous much? Plus a Modlgliani which didn't really fit with the surroundings either. Oppressive was the word that came to me as i left. Harsh high ceilings and just too much empty space. Cloakroom guy was nice so shoutout to him :).

The very first time I came here it was a stunning exhibition of new and 20th century art. It gave me faith in culture, and I was proud for Vienna to hold such a collection.
But... this big grey box has gotten worse every time I come. A year ago it was a bunch of wedding dresses. This March was a bunch of 'conceptual art', which is ironic because I think they missed the concept of a museum or exhibition. Junk. Nothing but junk. Kind of embarrassing at first, but by the end I felt physically ill that such a once-great institution has sunk to such a level.
Now let me be clear- I enjoy all genres and eras when it comes to art. I appreciate concepts that I may not be to my liking. But this was pure crap. A carpet with things hidden underneath. Bar stools of painted cardboard. Videos of objects not moving. Ya get me? Sheer lifelessness.
Considering the garbage they put in here, I'm wondering if it was bad that only half the space of this huge building was used. (Old joke- 'This food tastes horrible, and the portions are so small.') Now the areas (and floors) that weren't used were not roped off or anything, which gave the security guards an excuse for yelling at me. What, I'm forbidden to look through this open door into this empty room?
Even though I only paid the 5 euro Thursday night entry fee, I felt like a sucker.
