There are limited number so tickets per day and you need to go there early and get a ticket for the afternoon tour (about 1.5 hours). The building is amazing and looks like a neo-gothic church by design. The tour is in German but we had a small group and the tour was given in English. There is an audio device for the 10 key points of interest. The rooms are huge and elaborate. The hall is also a conference center as well as the city and provincial parliament. There is also a museum of the Austrian revolt of the 1930s. A fascinating feature is a continuous moving elevator that you step in and out of while it is moving. At the top and bottom the car moves sideways and then continues in the opposite direction. One of the highlights of our entire Vienna stay.

Yet another beautiful building in Vienna. Took part in the one hour free tour which took us round a variety of goergeous rooms. Beautiful architecture, beautiful paintings, beautiful ceilings. Worth taking time to do the free tour, you do get a small audio which offers a variety of languages. My one criticism is that whilst the tour itself is in German, the person takong the tour takes twice as long to talk about each room than the audio does which suggests more is getting said, also when questions are being asked she didn't translate what was being said for others in the groip

We really came in here to see the paternoster lift in motion. Afraid we had missed it as we believed it to turn off at 4 we wandered the beautiful hallways in search of the lift. Eventually we had to ask a guard who pointed us in the right direction. Enter via felderstrße entrance turn right and go through the doorway to the end of the hall. Opposite the new lift there is a corridor. Through the white door on the left is the lift - this is the bit we missed when trying to find it . You can ride in the lift all the way to the top and over. Don't be afraid! Pretty fun thing to do for a quick stop! The rest of the building is beautiful and free to enter .

The market at City Hall is advertised as the largest in Vienna but I actually found it to be quite small- easily walked at a slow pace in less than an hour. The backdrop is the gorgeous city hall building Rathaus constructed in the mid to late 1800's. The ornate details are incredible and you should walk around the building to take it all in. The market had some beautiful decor, lots of lights that provided a magical glow in the evening and a vintage ferris wheel and merry go round. Some good food and drink options as well.

Constructed from 1872 to 1883 in a neo-Gothic style, the Vienna Rathaus (city hall) is mind-boggling. The entire structure is on a grand "we-can-be-imposing-too" scale designed to rival the huge city halls of Brussels and the like. The main tower stands 98 meters tall and the building has nearly 3,000 rooms. Now that's a lot of office space... how many people do they need to run the city?

Looks like a church but is actually the town hall. The Neo-Gothic building was built between 1872 and 1883. Free guided tours are available Monday, Wednesday and Friday, at 1 p.m.
