This ancient university features some lovely architecture (as does the rest of Vienna), but unfortunately, tourists have nothing to do here, so you might as well just skip it or pass through it for a couple of minutes.

University of Vienna is a public university and one of the oldest universities in the German-speaking world. Besides that, it is one of the biggest universities in Europe and one of the most renowned in Humanities. The building is a highlight on Ringstrasse.

This is another example of the excellent architecture of Vienna. If you have the choice, do not hesitate to get inside the building. The sourrundings are nice, it is close to the historical center and the access is free.

The building looks good on the street. Gorgeous architecture and wonderful historic interiors. Very beautiful gallery and stairs. Interesting sculptural portraits of professors.

I was taken to the library at the university, which is on the Ringstrasse, by a local. It is very old and you can see some of the leather bound books on the shelves. However, it has also adapted to the modern era and there were dozens of students, all with their laptops plugged in, researching for their various projects.... More

Step inside the University and admire its beautiful inner courtyard, just wander around and see the several statues from its notorious graduates. A nice building in an amazing street as it is Ringstrasse.

The vast main building of the University is well worth a visit -- it's just by the Schottentor and the Votivkirche. You can walk freely through the splendid halls and corridors and sit outside in the courtyard taking the sun with students and other passers-by: there are blue deck chairs thoughtfully provided. The great and the good have their memorials and... More

An excellent, beautiful place to visit anytime when you're just around. Fill up with paintings, statues, and marvelous architecture. Definitely worth spending at least 30 minutes.

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
