Museum Nord - Narvik tells the stories of Ofoten line Railway construction...

Museum Nord - Narvik tells the stories of Ofoten line Railway construction and operation, of mining concern LKAB's iron ore transport over the harbour of Narvik, and the town of Narvik's 100 years long history. Apart from watching films, pictures and models, you can also experience a "train ride" in an authentic car used on Ofoten line. Museum has also exhibitions devoted to rock carvings, wreck diving in Narvik harbour, the coming Hålogaland bridge and central tunnel in Narvik, Sami people in Ofoten and much more. We are located in former NSB's (Norwegian Railways) administration building, monumental house built in 1902, short walk from Narvik's central square. There is a fine view over Narvik harbour and LKAB's facilities from museum's park. We also have a small museumshop and a simple café. Free parking.

Small museum housed in a beautiful building with an informative exhibition about the town of Narvik. Lots of the signs are in Norwegian only but you can have a brochure in English which gives you further information. There are also some films which have English subtitles. Friendly staff. Unfortunately a part of the museum was closed when I visited so... More

Of all the museums we visited in Sweden and Norway, this was the only one that included a whole room to the Sami, their culture and their traditions. The other displays were equally as informative about this industrial town. The staff were very helpful and answered our questions fully.

Narvik is an industrial town and there are not many activities for tourists outside of exploring the place. But the Museum Nord, found as you head south towards the Port of Narvik, is an interesting stop if you want to learn more about the town, the railway and the main industry of iron ore transport. It is a little out... More

The outside of the museum is beautiful and it houses different collections of things that show the towns history - including depictions of rock art that go back thousands of years. There's an old classroom, train carriage, a large section about the war. Most descriptions are just in Norwegian but there are some information books available at the front desk... More

Quite a thorough depiction of life from 1900 on with footage of a fire from being bombed in WWII. The pictures of changes over the years was interesting. Quite proud of their heritage.

This museum surprised me in a good way! It´s small but depicts the whole story from Narvik (1900 up to nowadays), besides a small room with some rock carvings with 8000 years. It´s a good place to find out about Narvik, with a great focus on LKAB, Narvik´s most known company.

We enjoyed looking at the photographs and exhibits to get a feel for how Narvik grew and local life changed, along with the railway. Some of the photographs are worth very close attention to see how war, fire and iron ore shaped growth locally.

The full monty on Narvik, well worth a visit. Th story of the Ofoten railway and the iron ore transport down that extraordinary railway line is very well curated.

The Ofoten Museum is THE museum to visit if you ever happen to reach Narvik. It is just about fifteen/twenty minutes walk from the train station and gives really great information about the history of Narvik, the railway, and the surroundings. Contrary to other museum where a couple of artifacts are just hanged from the wall together with explanatory notes,... More

The Ofoten Museum's display apparently change regularly. It's inexpensive to go, so it wasn't a bad way to kill an hour or so. While the regular displays were good (history of Narvik and it's railroad), there was art for sale on the first floor and a collective of a lot of 80's memorabilia (old computers, 80's fashion/toys/albums). I was hoping... More
