About
Valhall is an adventure centre on Krottoy in the municipality of Harstad just outside Harstad. Here you will be able to experience nature up-close in the most northerly habited archipelago, a natural pearl with sandy white beaches and a total of 365 islands. Krottoy was once part of Tore Hund’s kingdom. Here are ancient viking monuments. The island is lush and can boast a variety of plants, animals and birds. From the top of the island, you can get a 360-degree panoramic view. Here you can also quickly find the best fishing grounds. You can hire a fishing boat and try your luck at fishing. A boat trip onboard a rigid inflatable boat (RiB) in this archipelago is a fantastic experience with many birds and animals (white-tailed eagle safari). Here is a local family of seals, and you can visit the birdrock on Helloy with over 6000 nesting birds. Steinavaer further out in Andfjorden is a group of islands once populated by 127 people in the early 1900s. Here are traces of old habitation, and we can take you on a guided tour telling stories about what life was like. The archipelago is ideal for canoeing and diving in clean and clear water. Krottoy is a great place to see the Northern Lights in all its glory without the disturbing ground lights. From the top of Krottoykollen there is a full 360-degree panoramic view of the sky and free sight in the direction of the North Pole.

We were on a lomg weekend on summer and it was a fantastic experience. The island itself is impressive. Fantastic raw nature. Not a luxurious hotel, but with good rooms and facilities & amazing food. The owners work really hard to provide good service and try to give you the best experience on the island. This is not easy as it is a remote island almost inhabitated, except for the few holiday houses around. They offer a serie of activitues such as bicycle, silent motorbike rental etc. We did the rib trip and was very nice. Not at full speed though since we were with our 3 year old child. They were very considered with our little one and were always checking that he was fine during the trip. They also have facilities for group/business conferences and team buildings. Overall, I totally recommend the place!

I travelled to Harstad by Hurtigruten and eventually arrived on the island on a sunny morning by boat. Walking to the hotel, I realized that there is actually no sound other than the waves from the ocean and the chirping of some birds.

I was taken on a safari on that afternoon and saw many animals from very close distance. Einar, has a ton of knowledge about life on the island and was seemingly excited to share it with me. I felt like I learned more about the (north-) Norwegian culture during that one day than the other days I travelled through Norway combined.

I can higly recommend this place to anyone who likes animals, nature, outdoor activities as well as a quiet time. It's all there!

We stayed at Valhall for 2 nights in March and were thrilled with the beautiful scenery and experienced brisk weather and changeable conditions on the fjords. Our hosts are passionate about nature and local history and provided a wonderful opportunity to participate in many of the activities available here. We enjoyed our meals of reindeer and wild sheep from nearby islands. The Eagle Safari was an awesome experience. We didn't see too many eagles but had fun cruising the local waters and being surrounded by seals and thousands of nesting seagulls. The opportunity for nature photography is endless. We would definitely come back.

I spent a week here as part of a large group snorkelling with orca. The rooms are well kept and have everything you need, the food is brilliant (coming from a fussy eater) and home cooked for every meal. There is a common area with a small bar and the building is well covered with wifi. There's also a sauna somewhere but I was kept busy enough to not seek it out.

Kroettoeya is ideally placed to explore the Andfjorden, depending on the prevailing wind one can cover the entire fjord. Plenty of orca and humpback at this time of year, we saw them every day.

Einar and Ellen are wonderful hosts and very knowledgeable. Would love to go back!

Easy to book, and with regular ferry routes from Harstad it was no problem getting to beautiful Krøttøya And Vallall.
This trip in january 2016 was for 3 days, with one day of Whale safari. This was for a full day, and we really got time to learn the different individuals, both humpbacks and Orcas.
The trip was done in A safe way, both for us And the animals, also when we got in the water with them.

We also saw seals and the Sea eagle off course, And the northen lights,
Great trip with great people in a spektakular place with lots of old history,

Valhall is the perfect getaway..beautiful scenery all around, great marine wildlife, Northern lights, and excellent hospitality by Einar and Ellen. The food is fabulous - all home-cooked and hits the spot after a day on the sea with the whales.(not to be missed!) A perfect chill out spot but with plenty of walks to secluded coral beaches, watching eagles and searching for otters.I hope to come back some time in the future in the summer months to try out the kayaking and enjoy the midnight sun.

This place is quite simply a gem!
Not only were we to experience the most exciting and special encounters with various types of whale and the Northern Lights, but this hotel is simply fantastic. It's simplicity is its most special feature. Rooms are exceptionally clean and very comfortable but encourage free movement around the hotel and convivial chat in its communal lounge, sauna and dining areas. There is no need to rush, nothing is too much trouble and the wonderful food was suitable for everyone's tastes. Ellen runs the house and catering to a really high standard and seems to have a sixth sense about what everyone's particular preferences were. Outside, Einar operated the rib boat with wonderful skill and, along with Shane our guide, chose potential viewing and swimming locations with care considering the likely presence of the whales and also coped with some appalling weather conditions. All in all, this was a superb week and couldn't possibly be bettered. We can't wait to return in summer and see the stunning scenery in green as well as the now familiar white snow with beautiful bays and sea coves. In addition to the hotel, this island is wildlife heaven! We saw white tailed eagles, otters, lemming tracks, king eider ducks, little auks, orcas, fin whales, humpback whales and multiple sea birds we have never seen before. Take binoculars, a GoPro, camera, loads of warm clothes and immerse yourselves in an environment so unusual and special you will create life-long memories. Back at the hotel try out all Ellen's home made jams and sauces - rowan berry jelly with wild lamb was absolutely excellent!

A beautiful, comfortable residence in a breath taking location! Our hosts took great care of us, taking us out on the boat, where we got up close to orcas, and humpbacks! The food here is possibly the best I've ever had! Everything is home made and just delicious! I will truly miss the food here! Not to mention the view from my window! A++++

Valhall is placed in an unbelievable beautiful nature.
Excellent locally made food, with local ingredients.
Beautiful beaches. You get really close to the wildlife, and can see whales and eagles.
Not much disturbing light, so both the midnight sun in the summer, and the northern lights in the winter get extra clear and breath taking.
Simple, clean rooms and bathrooms.
Ellen and Einar at Valhall are very nice, and they make an effort to make sure people are pleased with their stay.
Also, for those interested: There is very interesting cold war military history on Krøttøya.
