Jurre Jan de Wit was the captain of our awesome tour to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. He did everything possible and more to make the experience a lasting one. Took us to beautiful places and to a wonderful spot where we could admire, for a long time, the sky amazing spectacle. He was very respectful of the surroundings, good at explaining the phenomena that was ongoing above our heads and a very skilled photographer. Thanks fro a great experience.

Brilliant tour, we did this for our first northern lights tour. Cloud cover was really bad that night but we will saw the lights and our wonderful guide made sure to monitor cloud cover and lights activity for the duration of the evening. He even brought home made soup, biscuits and we toasted marshmallows by the fire. Loved it so much! This was a great experience and I can’t recommend enough.

What a wonderful evening! JJ of Greenlander was an awesome guide - very knowledgeable about the lights, handy with an axe for splitting wood to make a fire, a careful driver, and a wonderful attitude and wit to keep us going when the aurora wasn't dancing. He also provided a fantastic soup around the fire, and is a brilliant photographer! We had one good flush at about 11pm, then we moved to a less windy spot, and just past midnight the sky exploded above us for an hour! Quite the most spectacular natural phenomenon I have ever witnessed. I would recommend not to take photos and rather experience the lights as they are, rather than through the lens of a camera. JJ's photos, which are supplied free of charge after the tour, are going to be better than yours anyway! We were an international group - I'm from South Africa, and we had Italian, Singaporean, Chinese, and an American - with a great chatty vibe and the entire night's experience was magical. I highly recommend this tour. Greenlander rocks! I have attached a couple of JJ's pictures.

I first contacted Markus at Greenlander Tours nearly a year ago but finally booked their Northern Lights Tour for our visit to Tromso in March. Prior to our visit communication was good with the company checking on our kit and clothing. Markus was also very helpful when I thought my camera lens had failed before we arrived from Bergen - it survived for the night! This was a brilliant trip and we had a very nice group of fellow travellers from Norway, Croatia and the USA. Shortly before our pick up in Tromso, there had been a heavy snow storm so I was not that hopeful on this, our third attempt to see Northern Lights (failed in Greenland and Finland in past years). The weather is very localised and it is essential to have both experienced and determined guides which is what Greenlander Tours provide. Having an excellent guide and driver - Jurre Jan de Wit (a.k.a. J.J.) was essential. Over the 8 hours from 7.00pm, JJ constantly checked apps, liaised with other ‘Chasers’, changed direction a number of times and drove for hundreds of kilometres until we reached a remote spot in the mountains in Signaldalen with views of the stunning mountain Otertinden. The Light show started… at first slowly with a barely visible green arc, but then the lights got stronger and stronger and then also appeared in violets and red - fantastic. I am a photographer and it was challenging trying to capture the Lights but JJ was on hand to advise on focussing etc. The Lights were amazing and the evening was excellent, definitely well worth the money. JJ then lit a fire pit and produced delicious flasks of soup for each of us followed by hot chocolate to keep us all warm in the -13 temperatures. We finally got back to our apartment at 2.30am. It was a brilliant night and very grateful thanks to JJ for his hard work in ensuring that we all saw the Northern Lights. Within literally a couple of hours JJ had also edited his photos and sent us all a full size set of his images - he is a professional photographer as well. In case JJ reads this - I did get some sharp images in the end and I am really pleased, thank you. If you want to heighten your chances of seeing the Northern Lights in Tromso then do not hesitate to book a tour with Greenlander Tours - I’d love to come back and do it all again.
