It contains the original raft used by Thor Heyerdahl to cross the Pacific Ocean in 1947. There is also a short documentary film shown but the day we were there, it was having some technical problems and we couldn't see the film, which was an award winning documentary. The museum also showcases the RA, another boat he sailed on in... More

The Kon Tiki Museum also contains Ra II reed raft and a visit just to see these 2 craft is well worth taking bus 30 (a route that covers a number of other out of town museums). Set aside at least an hour if time is limited and take in the efforts of a modern day explorer, Thor Heyerdahl.

There are three museums adjoining each other. #1 is definitely the Fram Museum, with Kon-Tiki #2, and the Viking Museum #3. If you have time, certainly visit all three, but be sure to give priority in this order. The Kon-Tiki Museum is similar to the Fram in that it documents the Kon-Tiki voyage, the writings that came out of it,... More

There are two boats/rafts to see here along with some smaller exhibits. Overall, my family did not get real excited about this museum. If you have limited time I would pass on this one.

Very good presentation on both the Kong-Tiki and the Ra with lots of historical information. The write ups were in many languages including English.

This is part of the museum island. Since I read the story ice ages ago, this had particularly high interest for me. It's quite a story of one man's theory and proving it. They had the actual rafts that were constructed and sailed from South America to the South Pacific. I was little boy again excited by the journey and... More

This museum recounts the adventures of Thor Heyerdahl who crossed the Pacific Ocean on the balsawood raft Kon-Tiki in 1947. Subsequent expeditions were on the reed boats Ra and Tigris. Visitors to the Kon-Tiki Museum can see the original vessels and learn more about the expeditions to Easter Island and the Galapagos. Exhibitions include many artifacts as well as Thor... More
