I have seen loads of castles, this just seemed very underwhelming! We did walk around the harbour all the way till the castle, we climbed up and down but were out from there in less than an hr!

This time we only went for a walk around the grounds and did not go inside the castle, which is also well worth a visit. As you approach it from the city side, you pass the current police stables and, if you're lucky, you will see them at work. You will notice that the buildings are built successively around the... This is a nice Castle that look more like a fortress. It has a long and interesting history. Some times there is special events for children, normally around christmas and eastern times. There is also a coffe-shop so you can sit down and have a rest. I recommend it as one of the thisngs you should see in Oslo.

This is a large and open castle and fortress with a lot to see. So much history for such a building in such a strategic position. Well worth the visit, even in the winter. Make sure you visit the Resistance Museum that is located very nearby.

It was freezing the day I visited, but it was my last day in Oslo, so much character and details in the fortress, definitely would go and walk around again, lovely Oslo views from here.

I live in Oslo. And i have ofcourse been here several times. Is it special? No not really. But if the weather is good you will have a nice view. And you might even learn some history if you take a guided tour. Ive done that too. And the guides is good. So you should just go there.

We only saw the Akershus Castle while visiting the wharf area. It is beautiful to see and the wharf area is well worth the walk

Akershus Castle and Fortress is up on the hill overlooking the Oslo Harbour. With the history spanning from pre-mediaeval times to the modern day it is a good place to learn about about the changing fortunes of Norway over the last 1000 years and the particular part that Oslo is played in that history. The visitors centre has a lot... More

This museum wasn't initially on our list, but it was raining and it looked nice and warm inside so we gave it a go. We did the audio tour. We learned a lot and found it to be really a stunning castle and experience overall. Only downside was that when a larger group came through we were often told to... More
