There’s a lot to see at Akershus Fortress. We ended up visiting three times but still didn’t see it all. First time we went midweek in late afternoon. Got a “trails” map from the visitor center and toured the exhibition there on Akershus as a...More

We learnt a lot about Norwegian history over the centuries. The changing of the guard was small and brief but worth watching. The walk around the walls was scenic. The castle wasn't open.

We took a break from the cold and spent an hour on the site - that’s plenty of time. We went at last entry (4pm) and it was quiet. Information provided in a range of languages. The structure itself is impressive. Worth a visit.

From our guidebook we thought that Akershus Castle and Fortress was worth a visit, but the interior of the castle was much more interesting than we had expected. It's a strange mix of medieval castle with prison and basic rooms and luxurious accomodation of royalty....More

This was my first castle I have visited and although we only saw it from the outside it was beautiful. It is quite hilly in places so not suitable for everyone.

- nice to walk around for sightseeing even on a winter day - you can climb up the top of the fort to see the view which is pretty nice - you can buy a ticket to go into the castle but we didn't, anyway,...More

An interesting visit with some information on the Norwegian history and royalty. Treacherous with ice and uneasy to walk around with bad weather conditions!

It was a very cold snowy day, but great for a walk to get great views of Oslo as the day drew to a close. It meant that detailed visits were not realistic, although we visited the Visitor Centre and gift shop, for a crafty...More

As I understood this castle is one of the oldest buildings in the Norwegian capital. It was erected around 1300, in addition this is amazing view on the city fjord from thick fortress stone walls

Even though we didn't get a guided tour, we walked all throughout the grounds and the areas that were open. There is al ot of history here and the structures are breathtaking.

As others have said, the fortress is free; a large area to walk around and a glorious walk around the harbour to get there (if the weather is kind). The castle interior entry is 70NOK for adults and 50NOK for seniors. I... More
