I really enjoyed this and there's certainly more to see than first appears. Take the time to stop by the information center as well. Also it's free which is a rarity in Norway.

In my opinion, the best time to visit the castle is in winter. The castle is beautiful, you can walk everywhere within the walls of the castle and it’s totally free. There is even a little museum inside the main building. You will also find...More

The Norwegian resistance museum and the fortress with its commanding views not to be missed if you love history. A tribute to those that fought the nazi’s.

Excellent location with original stone walls, historical buildings dating all the way back to 1300 century. There are lots of sites, views and histories to tell from different parts of the castle.

The castle is in a great spot. And the views are great. But as far as European castles go there isn’t a lot to it. There are some walls. And then a part in the middle under guard by a current well armed man. But...More

From the 1300s, this castle is an easy walk from central Oslo. Free. Music festival was going on the day I visited.

The castle itself was closed when we visited but the grounds are lovely and the views from the walls is superb! The Resistance Museum is located there, too and that is also well worth a visit.

As others have said, the fortress is free; a large area to walk around and a glorious walk around the harbour to get there (if the weather is kind). The castle interior entry is 70NOK for adults and 50NOK for seniors. I... More
