The castle itself is free to get into and has lots of museums within in such as the Resistance Museum and the Armed Forces Museum. There is a bit of walking in and around it as well as some great views. It's started snowing during our visit but it was still very enjoyable and worth a visit. It is also... More

Nice fortifications with great views on Oslo fjords. It must be better in the summer than in winter, I guess, it was a bit cold and snowy so we couldn't see much and didn't spend there as much time as we wanted. The castle still looks great, even though is more than 700 years old. The guards are wandering around... More

Right in the heart of the city, close to a few other must-see attractions. Beautiful views on Oslo harbour open from the thick walls of the fortress. A very nice place for a picnic, for families, couple or solo visit. During my visit there was a sculpture exhibition there, too, I guess it was temporary. Very interesting. Also the entrance... Nice to wander round briefly but not the most dramatic castle you will ever see! We went on an incredibly foggy day so couldn't see much and the views might be good. The guards must be freezing stood up there all day.

I visited Akershus on a cold snowy day, via a 10 minute walk from the city centre. The castle and grounds are lovely to walk around but there isn't much to do. There is a visitor centre which has a novel of text on the wall - very dull, not helped by the receptionist who was abrupt when I asked... More

We visited there today. There was snow on the ground. It was very pretty & lovely views out over the fjord. The only problem is that it is hard to figure out what buildings are open or closed. We ended up not going in to any building but walking about. Nice, still. Worth a visit for the view.

This is located in the heart of Oslo and if you want to find out about Norweigen History is a must see. The location is great you can walk the parapets and see the Oslofjord and harbour which the fort dominates. Inside there are exhibitions and the Resistance Museum , the grounds are free to visit.

The fortress grounds are open to the public except for one area that is still part of the Norwegian armed forces. In the public area there is a resistance museum with exhibits and information from WWll. The first ramparts where built around the year 1299. There is a lot of history here that is only available if you take a... More

A former royal residence, thick impressive walls. Well worth the walk and the view across the harbour is beautiful.
