Not very impressive
Mar 2020
It won awards in 2013 for being the most innovative, but it seems time have stood still since then. It's too bad as we have so much fantastic music to showcase, but videos and soundboxes staged too close together so music annoyingly overlaps made this somewhat a sour experience. You walk up a spiral with no stairs, and it finishes too fast :( People who work there are very nice, and there is a small giftshop where you buy tickets. Tickets that are quite expensive for what you get.

We attended a show with the MgP Jr. contest winners and the children went on stage along with the winners. We will come back another time, two hours was not enough for us :)

Opening times are not correct
Aug 2019 • Friends
They were supposed to be open (thursday 1st of August) and they are closed. This is totally useless. I met some other tourists that also wanted to visit. We called the various phone Numbers in the door and website. No answer.

We are so sorry that you guys had this experience. We were supposed to be open until 19:00, but there was an internal glitch after the summer holiday. Again, so sorry, and if you are ever able to return to Popsenteret, send us a message, and we´ll hook you up proper! :)

English:

We visited the Norwegian museum of pop music and musical arts. This was a lovely visit. We called some days ahead to make sure they had room for us, they were super friendly and very helpful. When we arrived at the center we were met with a friendly greeting, and very helpful staff. Our guide at the museum spoke passionately and insightfully about the different musical areas and instruments. He perfectly knew his area of expertise and gave us good answers to our questions. They explained perfectly how the sound and music both worked and gave us helpful assistance whenever we needed it.
The bathrooms and the musical facilities where in good conditions as well as the costumes we borrowed were of good quality as well as they were clean. If we were to nitpick we would wish for a couple more headphones in the music both so we didn’t have to share.

We give the Norwegian museum of pop a full score and recommend it to everyone in all ages. It is a fun group or family activity and everyone find it amusing. 5 out of 5 stars.

So much to do here with young children - musical instruments to practise as well as several specific play areas! We only found out about this place through Oslo Pass, but so glad we did!

Impressive

This place was obviously designed by or in very close co-operation with someone who knows a thing or two about music production and the music industry. It doesn’t feel cheezy in a ”grandpa wants to be hip” manner, which museums like this sometimes can do. The interior is very cool and futuristic and the concept of walking along a timeline is a smart idea. It also highlights how many big artists Norway has produced through the years. One of the most entertaining museums I ever visited.

Fun, interactive, interesting!

I loved this museum. There is so much to do, included many different opportunities to listen to all the music on your own and in the context of the museum's exhibit. Besides many videos throughout the displays, there are listening pods, album selection tables, and music video listening rooms. There is a whole "do it yourself" studio that takes you through the whole music writing, recording, and distribution process. The interactive aspects seemed fun and reminded me of the ABBA Museum in Stockholm.
Can't be missed for any music lover!

So glad we visited. Interactive and very fun and entertaining. Note that the English tour does not run every day - we were told that it’s just available during peak tourist times. Nonetheless, most of the key information is in English and if you do have any trouble understanding the Norwegian, helpful staff members are on hand to help.

Great couple of hours with teens
Aug 2018 • Family
We visited Popsenteret with our two kids (15 and 13 and both into music, although different genres) and got there in time for the English intro (11am on the dot). The guide was so friendly and once the tour was over helped us out with the various things to do in the museum - it was very quiet so no idea how much attention you'd get if it was busier. We enjoyed walking around the exhibition bit, the studio, playing the instruments and getting dressed up for our album cover. You have to throw yourself into it or you won't enjoy it all, but if you do it's a very fun couple of hours.
