Astrup Fearnley Museet is a private museum and has since its opening in 1993 been one of the most important art institutions in Oslo. The museum moved to Tjuvholmen in 2012, beautifully located by the Oslo Fjord in a building designed by world-renowned architect Renzo Piano. The museum adventure starts as soon as you catch sight of the magnificent building that unites art, nature and urbanity. The museum houses the Astrup Fearnley Collection, one of Norway's most important and most extensive private collections of contemporary art, with iconic works by artists such as Damien Hirst, Anselm Kiefer and Jeff Koons.

Even if you just walk by it, you will be happy. It is right on the tip of the strip of land that juts out into the fjord. They have a cafe that looks right onto the fjord and a park right next to it. Not to mention the actual building itself, Wow! The art is of a modern variety... More

This modern art gallery is worth a visit. While all the exhibits might not be to everyone's liking there are some interesting pieces. The museum shop is pretty good.

Amazing building at the end of Aker Brygge. Beautiful views of Oslo fjord. We did however not visit the exhibition.

The main reason for our visit to this museum was to see the Murakami by Murakami exhibition. It did not disappoint and is obviously pulling in the crowds as this was a very busy Sunday afternoon. The larger works were well displayed with large written information boards in both Norwegian and English. There seemed to be a curating issue with... More

Make sure you check out what's the temporary exhibition, because if it's of no interest for you than the main building isn't worth the entrance ticket price, the permanent collection isn't that big at all. Murakami temporary exhibition was a blast.

Murakami by Murakami was my first visit since the Fearnley Museet did reopen from its former locations in the Kvadraturen sector of Oslo. This Renzo Piano Wing did fall on a new island. This masterpiece allow you to swim dry, to fly inside, to respire in the crowd. Murakami by Murakami was presented with life, devotion, joy. Manga at its... More

Just the architecture it self is amazing! We saw the Murakami by Murakami exhibition and found it both stunning and awesome. At the more stationary exhibition, work from Faldbakken, Prince and Koons "Michael Jackson and Bubbles" were my personal favorites.

An amazing piece of architecture in a fantastic location with views accross the Fjord. Well worth a visit. [I did twice, first thing in the morning and late afternoon to see the city in different lights]. You can even walk over it! toilets inside [free] are amazing!

We visited this museum yesterday afternoon for free using our Oslo Pass - excellent value! Firstly, the building is in a wonderful area of Oslo that looks newly developed. Lovely walk up to it. Great setting with nice views across the fjord. A lovely modern building, also. The exhibits contained within were brill! There was a collection of work by... More
