Hovedoya is a small island sitting nearest to Oslo's harbour. There are regular ferries out to the various islands nearest Oslo and we chose to do a little tour of these islands one day. The ferries prices are very reasonable, with an adult able to get a 24hour ticket for all public transport for 90NOK (£9.00). Our first stop was... More

With the boat running every 30 minutes and free with the travel card, this is an escape from Oslo, but just a lonely place Good for water related activities

The ferry goes here every hour during the day from pier 4 next to the city hall (Radhuset) and it's definitely worth of spending some time here. I recommend to buy 24 hours ticket for public transportation (90 NOK) and go to explore the islands. Hovedoya is the closest one to the city center and you will get there in... More

While you are on the Island to swim or walk ,you can also see a very old monestry. I quote"The Cistercian monastery, Hovedøya Abbey, was built on the island, and opened in 1147. During the Medieval period, the monastery was a leading economical force in the Oslo region. " something different to do.

Oslo isn't a very big city but if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle Hovedoya is only a 15 minute ferry (B3) away. With quiet beach, open spaces and a nature reserve it is definitely somewhere for an escape.

As soon as you get onto the island you appreciate how spectacular it is, as you walk up the hill you come across the ruins of an old monastery, with a little tower you can still walk up into the top of. As you walk past this there is the coast, with numerous little pebble beaches with high rock walls... More

We got there by the ferry near the city hall. There is ancient castle and fabulous view on the other end island. We spend there about 1,5.

Awesome place, if you want to enjoy the nature. Just being in Oslo means a lot, urban, trendy and natural.

Our visit to the island was on a warm sunny day. Many people visit the island to enjoy a walk, picnic and a swim. The ferry ride is no more than 10 minutes but if they run to a schedule it is a well kept secret. There is a cafe on the island and a range of sandwiches and drinks... More

Litte Island who is easy to reach with a ferry. You are able to walk around and explore the island , make a picnic or chill at the beach. Nice half day trip
